Why do people look at us twice?

Probably a small percentage is genuine prejudice. Probably a certain percentage is just nosiness, and they'd be looking at you anyway if you were with someone of your own creed. Probably a certain percentage is just people that don't mean to look, but are vulnerable to the way that our brains work, which means that things that we don't expect to see grab our attention. And then perhaps because you've experienced a certain amount of gawping, it heightens your awareness of it, so probably a certain percentage is you projecting your expectations onto other people when they're probably not looking at you any differently to anyone else.

That's what I reckon, anyway. It reminds me of something that happened to me when I was younger, though.
