Head of Plymouth bikers Aquila in court with another man charged with attempted murder
THE head of a city motorcycle club has appeared in court jointly charged with another man of attempting to murder a 23-year-old.
David Woolley, of Northumberland Street, Weston Mill, and Nigel Saunders, of Peter's Close, Elburton stood before magistrates yesterday charged with the attempted murder of Matthew Bird in Mutley Plain on Saturday evening.

A third man has been charged in connection with the stabbing that took place on Mutley Plain late last Saturday night.
A 40-year-old man from the Whitleigh area has been charged with attempted murder after being questioned by police and is due to appear at Plymouth Magistrates Court today.
Woolley and Saunders appeared before magistrates yesterday.
The court heard how Devon and Cornwall Police launched an investigation after Mr Bird was allegedly attacked as he sat in a vehicle with his girlfriend in Mutley Plain on Saturday evening.
Woolley, aged 49, and Saunders, aged 45, both spoke only to confirm their names, ages and home addresses.
They occasionally turned around to nod towards the packed public gallery.
Summarising the case, prosecutor Gareth Warden said that Woolley was head of the biker group Aquila.
He noted how further investigations were being carried out by Devon and Cornwall Police.
He also told magistrates Mr Bird had suffered wounds to his back and stomach.
Mr Warden said a doctor at Derriford Hospital had told police the young man's injuries were "life threatening". Chair of the bench, Carol Belton, said the case would be sent to Plymouth Crown Court.
She remanded both men into custody and ordered them to reappear for a preliminary hearing on April 29 and a plea and case management hearing on July 22.
Two other men – aged 40 and 44 – were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident.
The 44-year-old has been released with no further action, police confirmed this morning.
