Who'd be up for it?

I'm sure there's a suitable online platform for such a thing, if there's enough interest I might bother googling the possibilities. :D

Well?

ETA* This is now up and running, though it is just friendly games atm, so if you'd like to join in sign up at www.chess.com/echess/ and add any of the names listed below to your friends list to challenge them!

I learnt this summer that my old fella learnt chess so he could teach me because I'd shown an interest.

And there was me well chuffed aged 10 having beaten him thinking "he's been playing for yonks!"

Bless him.

What about on-line tiddly-winks?

My 11 year old beats me at chess - he plays the same as his dad. If they just move swiftly & instinctively, like me, I always win. But they ponder every possible outcome of every move, so that by the time it's my go, I'd proper bored, and am happy to lose just for it to be over. :P

Edit

Is it a trick of the light, or are you wearing tiny ribbons in your hair in that photo?

I think this is a great idea, as I really enjoy playing chess.

You could use chesscube as it's a free site, but this would involve people arriving at the same time and playing against the clock.

Another possible idea that could work is just playing correspondence chess, and posting the moves up on a thread. This would require people to know basic chess notation, and could potentially be confusing, but you can have some epic games that way, and indeed play multiple people at once, albeit that would make it more confusing! I know not everyone is IT proficient, but you can even post up screen grabs of the position if need be.

If you wanted to do the latter there are loads of free programs that can be downloaded so that you can save the position on your computer.

I'm up for it.

Open up a 2 player game on each of our computers and post the moves on a thread sounds a good plan.

There are some free correspondence sites as well having looked it up, such as:

www.chesshere.com/my_games.php?id=

This would require people to sign up, though. I will sign up for the one above and see if I can work out whether it would be helpful.
