Brand projecting his communist fantasy

You have offered no evidence to suggest that he is a communist let alone a member of the Communist party and have failed to address his message.

Instead you have used a collection of ad hominem attacks on his character based on his career, his wealth/success and a reference to his influences- and that was cherry picked and removed from context.

You're not here to debate at all, as far as I can see.

I suppose if I had to nutshell my reaction to this story it would be that Brand is perfectly entitled to voice his opinion on any topic he chooses.
I support and in fact encourage that.

My problem with the story is predominately the media's portrayal of him being at the vanguard of some revolutionary front.
It's hype meets hype and gives birth to lots of little hypes.

Not worth getting into a hair-tugging scuffle as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for that but I have to say that to be influenced or informed by Marx's work does not make one a "Marxist" in the modern political sense and certainly does not necessarily mean that one is a communist. Marx is more than the father of Socialism btw.
I hoped you listened as far as 24:50 "taking care of the most vulnerable..to me that is not Socialism that is Christian that is spiritual".

Well that is a shame because it would have been more interesting to me than a couple of paragraphs from Wikipedia. But in lieu of our own thoughts and words on the matter, perhaps this, from your own wiki source, will help shed light on Marx's influence vis-à-vis political Marxism.
There is no single definitive Marxist theory; Marxist analysis has been applied to diverse subjects and has been misconceived and modified during the course of its development, resulting in numerous and sometimes contradictory theories that fall under the rubric of Marxism or Marxian analysis.
Marxism has developed into different branches and schools of thought. Different schools place a greater emphasis on certain aspects of Classical Marxism while de-emphasizing or rejecting other aspects of Marxism, sometimes combining Marxist analysis with non-Marxian concepts.
Marxist understandings of history and of society have been adopted by academics in the disciplines of archaeology and anthropology,[6] media studies,[7] political science, theater, history, sociological theory, art history and art theory, cultural studies, education, economics, geography, literary criticism, aesthetics, critical psychology, and philosophy.

Karl Marx founded Marxism, which is widely known as an influential political and economic system, but which is also a religion from a sociological perspective. Marx founded "Marxist Communism" and he was one of history's most important proponents of Communism. Marx co-authored The Communist Manifesto, which is probably the most important document in the history of Communsim, essentially the "scripture" or "holy book" of the movement. But Marx himself did not create Communism; it was an existing, organized philosophy that he was attracted to.www.adherents.com/people/pm/Karl_Marx.html

Quirky comedian Russell Brand took to an American basketball match to root for the working class.

Brand wore an angry expression as he sat in the front row of an LA Lakers game and the words of Karl Marx written on his arm. The inscription read: "Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains."

Brand, who is engaged to Katy Perry, might be feeling the ball and chain of impending marriage. But most likely, the Sun newspaper claims, he was trying to get some publicity for the late father of communism.

Brand afterward took to his Twitter account to say: "I've just heard the Lakers are all millionaires! How?! I put my balls in a basket ONCE and I was thrown out of the maternity ward.

What is a Laker anyway? A sub-aquatic Quaker? It doesn't make sense. And they pick the ball up in their hands. God I miss West Ham [a UK football team]."
entertainment.ca.msn.com/celebs/article....-documentid=23619091

I don't want to debate communism, perhaps Marx did reform or create his one version of it ''"Marxist Communism" .

The only point here is that Brand is referring to it in some capacity or another and even if it is not exactly communism it's got the same connections to communism as Christianity has with the Old testament. One seems to be a close ally of the other.
So we can say depending on Brands exact thoughts about Marxism could depend on where and how moderate to communism even in the Marxist formula that he is positioned. which is exactly why I don't want to get in to a lengthy debate about it, only that Brand is somewhere between a moderate Marxist and a communist Marxist for where he gets his viewpoints from.

That's pretty much everybody then......albeit they all see their own different reasons why Brand is either
a) a loony....and by association so is anybody who agrees with him
b) being set up for a fall.....and by association so is anybody who agrees with him

For me personally, Brand just doesn't 'sit comfortably', I'm not bothered about the reasons behind it.

It does not matter to me what the media or the truthers say, he's got a show to plug, and it's quite odd that all this has come out of Brand as a parallel to his messiah complex 'comedy show'.

We've heard it all before from 'other comedians' I guess you know who they are, the main difference being that they were actually funny.

So are you saying (regardless of my source) that Marx did not co author '' The Communist Manifesto ''. ?

The reason that I focused on Marx rather than Jesus is that there can be little dispute that Marx was who we think he was, Jesus on the other hand is anything from the son of God, to a reincarnation of the story of Horus, to the son of Roman soldier Pantera.

So he's a comedian?

So was Charlie Chaplin, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, ...oh hang on... we've already made that list.

Ayn Rand was a novelist but that never seems to undermine her in the eyes of "libertarians".

Brand has publically announced that his viewpoints are from socialist and 'even' Marxist thoughts.
Marx being the co author of the communist manifesto, ok Brand might not be in the communist party, as many 'Christains' don't go to church.
I'm quite sure that my original statement on this thread about Brands communist outlook did not point to him as actually being in the communist party.
I did state they those view points were somewhat masked with other topics, I was talking about an undercurrent, I do apologise if it cam across that I was accusing Brand of being an upstanding member of the communist party .

And yes he is a comedian and this 'political view point' stuff, big brother is in control, has been done to death by other and better comedians than Brand, so what exactly is the point in him repeating it?

No. And for the last time: to cite Marx as an influence does not make one a Communist. Otherwise most of the economists, historians and anthropologists in the World would be commies.

He said "Christian or spiritual". He mentioned the ethos and not the figure of Jesus. You chose to take Brand's reference to Marx as a sign he was a Marxist and ignore the reference to Christianity. You could have just as easily said he was preaching Xtianity.

You clearly wish to portray Brand as a left wing extremist.

I think you better refer to the his messiah complex 'comedy show' as per 'Jesus' 'messiah complex by term refers to the man himself not the idea that the man represents

It seems that you have decided to embark on discrediting things that i have typed by taking things that I have posted out of context, you're not Russel Brands PR agent are you?

I'm going to stop posting on this thread now as no matter what I type you're intent in either disputing the validation of my source or taking things out of context He is not in the communist party

EDIT..
Extract below from my original post on this 'communist matter' where I did mention 'new religion' and a style of comedy 'wit'

''It seems that Brand is using some sort of communist ideology that is partially masked with new age religion and alternative 'wit' as to soften it's impact, so that it appears less stark.''

I said stated he was using 'some sort' of communist ideology ( but not that he was a member of a communist party) I identified to you that this was Marxism and provided the Youtube clip on inforwars, you don't agree, and I don't care that you don't agree.
However you've made a good job of taking some of my comments out of context as to argue for the sake of argument.

You had stated that Marxism was socialist and not communist, thus you appeared to be stating that Marx was not a communist ''the father or socialism'' <<< your words.

When I pointed out that he was the co author of the communist manifesto, you attacked my source, so I needed to check what you actually were disagreeing with on
my source, as the main point of my linking that source was to point out that he was the co author of the said document, so no strawmen there just childishly argumentative claptrap from you.
That's not why I'm using this forum.

Sorry but I don't agree with anything you say threre BC.

If others speak up but don't get their voices heard, that's not really the fault of, or of any relevance to, someone like Brand who is in a position to be heard.

Also, people aren't going ape shit saying he's on the level, any more than you're going ape shit slagging him off.

And re what he knows about poverty - I guess you missed the bit about his being a druggie when younger due to a deprived upbringing and belief there was no future. Hence his professed anxiousness that things change so that people don't have to face that kind of despair.

Actually, the kind of prejudice that slates someone, saying they won't take part, then accuses the same person of being there for photo's when it' s pointed out that he's already been there taking part, makes me think it's pointless debatong because you're deyermined to be unreasonable.

sorry about the tons of typos - on phone, so I hope they don't distort my meaning.
