I have been very rudly told by a site administrator that quoting the fact that the freedom of speech is promoted on the homepage is now banned, simply because I have quoted this.
Do any members want to calmly debate this point?

It's just because people don't trust your motives for being here. You know that already, because you've been accused of being a sock.

If you're not one, you can debate away.

If you are, you won't be here long. Hope that helps.

Batou is just having a laugh, you'd know not to take anything he says seriously if you were on here a few weeks.
Ironically enough, seeing as you have taken him seriously it suggests you definitely are new to here so its a plus for you tbh :D

No need to apologise dear. :)

How come you never asked when you were accused of it initially?

Whistle...you really aren't doing yourself any favours here.

Let me explain a bit...see, in the past, various people for reasons best known only to themselves have attempted to sign up here using dummy accounts, or 'socks'. Their one purpose appears to be to disrupt, start fights and just generally make arses of themselves.

Had you already been here a few weeks and actually taken part in other discussions, your posts thus far may have been treated differently. The fact that you have joined and immediately appear to be antagonising people (whether or not you actually mean to) is going to make your stay here a little difficult, even if you did now wish to stay with us.

If you can clarify exactly what you feel we have done thus far to make you feel unwelcome, perhaps we can discuss it in an adult manner and come to some sensible resolution. Otherwise, we're just going to go round and round in circles. Trust me on this one...unfortunately, we've done it here many, many times before.

Bats post was a bit tongue in cheek, which you may have picked up on if you had been here for a bit. He meant no offence. Generally speaking, we're all very relaxed here and that's just kind of how we talk to each other.

So, in answer to your question, no. Freedom of speech is most certainly not a taboo subject here. If you stick around, you will see just that for yourself. That this forum is still here at all really is testament to the fact that we aren't the kind of place where you can't talk about certain things. What we will not tolerate as a community however, is racism, bigotry and general arseness. Even then, no one person here would exert any kind of restrictions upon you without a consensus from all who care to partake.

We really are very nice. Take your coat off and have a brew. :coffee:

Hi Gilly, I didn't realise I was a suspected sock. Anyhow, I did a dictionary search and see that apart from the obvious it is a term used to describe a successful actor.
Point taken. Who is and who isn't must be a constant worry. Just as well I didn't post this in the serious forum then.
This illustrates the dichotomy that arises in trying to exercise freedom of speech whilst remaining anonymous on a forum. Some forums don't allow members to be anonymous at all, but they tend to cover safe subjects of course, like geology and other academic areas.
Some don't want members to reveal their real ids, for their own protection.
Now, I'd be quite happy to reveal my identity in the context of an open subject, where there is no court order to consider. But I'd want to use a new id so that someone wasn't able to put two and two together and announce something akin to 'Here's Banksy's real name and address!'

Theres millions of topics that are just fine on here.
However if you want total free speech then you WILL get invaded by the stormfront crowd and the nazi's on DIF, simple as.

Despite them allowing people to talk about 'repatriating darkies' and euthanizing old people they in turn would ban you for calling them racist nazis...which they are of course but the point is that stormfront is NOT a free speech forum despite its content anymore than this is a free speech forum.

Our nations were not founded on free speech by the way, anymore than they allow for free speech now with gag orders on the guardian paper for example. In the past we used to execute people here for much less and that was not that long ago and we even had 'democracy' back then.

What I can't stand tbh is bullshit and to state that the UK is a 'free speech state' or the US or Germany or dozens of other countries is quite frankly laughable.
Your own legal experience should have made this self evident by now ;)

Awwww, we're you asked to clarify your claim? We're sorry, we thought we were free to speak our minds on your threads, apparently not.
