You all thought I'd let it lie, didn't you? But I'm not going to, so FUCK YOU.

I was persecuted today. PERSECUTED. Someone asked me what I'd be doing on Christmas Day and I confirmed I'd probably be staying in bed until about midday, then ordering a pizza.

The reaction I received was as if I'd just pulled down my pants and tried to kiss this person's face with my arsehole.

I was asked many, many questions but they were still indignant about the fact that I would not be doing anything particularly.

"Were you christened? So, why aren't you celebrating"?

"Aren't your family doing anything"?

"What happened to make you hate Christmas?"

I have heard this one before, but it's quite a doozie so I'll mention it again:

"Christmas isn't about religion".

We ended the conversation with the promise on their part that "this isn't over", so no doubt I shall be subjected to further abuse tomorrow.

So, here it is. Ignore it, pour scorn on it or mock it. You all have your pro-Christmas threads. The Anti-Christmas Thread is here once again and if you don't like it, you know what you can do with it.

Now I'm straddling both threads as I don't like xmas per se, I do like all the family and friends gathering around the fireplace during the solstice and taking stock of the year passed and looking to the spring ahead.

And any excuse to start the day with booze in my coffee is alright by me!

That's all fine, but what does it have to do with this 'Christ' geezer? :coffee:

Just do the 'mass' bit then innit. Mass drinking, mass eating, mass debating, mass charades.

I may well do so, but not because of some arbitrary date and most certainly not because everyone else says I should.

Harumph.

I'm not a massive fan either. I can sort of see why it was a big deal in Dickensian times, as depicted in 'A Christmas Carol', because that was a phenomenally poverty-stricken society. Some of them probably only ate meat once per year. Today, I struggle to see what makes it special. So you're going to eat what food you feel like, really gorge yourself on it, drink loads, buy loads of consumer tat and watch TV. How does that differ from the other days of the year?

I think as well that people really must feel like shit who can't afford to do those things, unless they've miraculously managed to break out of the social programming, which is extremely difficult. Even if you have broken out of such programming, it's still easy to feel excluded, isolated and alienated.

Also, I suppose it is a day when you all get together as a family with people you don't necessarily see that often, but all the people for whom this is the case in my family are either dead, absent due to some form of argument or disagreement, or I don't actually like them.

I hate Christmas..

Only joking.

I really hate Christmas!
But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma,
a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

I agree.... balls to xmas.
The pressure put on people to do something or be coerced into exchanging gifts is fucking tedious.

I haven't celebrated the mass of Christ for around 15-16 years now. :hypo: :psketti:

If some people want to celebrate the 'birth' of their imaginary friend, why the fuck should I join in?

It's akin to celebrating the 'birth' of Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.

Why am I expected to pretend that some group imaginary friend is real?

Why am I expected to conform to group insanity?

Fuck that and fuck anyone with any such expectations of me. I am not interested in your imaginary friend, even if you claim it is 'his birthdate', that doesn't make your imaginary friend real. Nothing will. Not even if every person on the planet celebrated the fictional birth of your imaginary friend would that make them a reality.

It is high time to stop pandering to the insane that live in their fictional world.

Thanks all...a little part of me thought you lot would start on me anorl.

To clarify...I don't hate Christmas. I have no strong feelings about it one way or the other. Just as I have no strong feelings about Eid or any other religious festival.

I completely respect others rights to believe whatever they believe and celebrate whatever they want to celebrate. All I ask in return is that I am afforded the same privilege.

I have no time for the consumer-fest aspects of it all.
Completely detest the pressure it puts on many people, especially young parents. :nono:

That said, any excuse to get together with people you love or enjoy their company is fine though and should be leapt on.

Agreed, though it must be stressed that you can actually do this at any time of the year too. I know we all work and make excuses...I just view it as unfortunate that it takes a public holiday and 'tradition' to coerce some people into doing so.

That and plus I fucking hate everyone, anyway.
