How does someone do this?

My son has a youtube account but has almost taken out a contract with someone called freedom.tm

I have stopped this but woul be interested to learn if there is a way he can promote his channel, get viewers, and make a pound or two?

He is after viewers not money per say

My son has done this Dawney, and there's nothing suspicious about it. I had my concerns about it to begin with. He doesn't do it now because it was something to do with recording his 'skirmishes' on CoD or some such game when he was a member of the Top Team worldwide and best player in Europe or some such. But he doesn't play or post anymore.
I know there are people on there from women doing herbal remedies to men showing basic car maintenance who make a few pence for each view they get.
I can't drag son away from his lappy to explain to you how it works.....but I'm sure some 'techy' will be along shortly!

I'm not entirely familiar with what goes on... but afaik, it's as simple as getting as many views as possible & some companies will pay for the advertising space dependent on how many hits it gets.
Some stuff is automatically popular which makes it easier.... eg, what Jane just posted is about people uploading videos of their gaming and showing other people how to complete levels & stuff. A company might want to stick one of those annoying 5sec ads at the beginning and the video uploader will get 1p or something every time someone watches it.

How come that post came up with links that were underlined that take you to adverts?

It depends what the subject matter is, but if you're really serious about it then there are ways you can inflate the viewcount on your videos, which pushes you up the list..

One hour of video is uploaded to Youtube every second, so it is rather competitive.

Actually it is a common youtube tactic aye, as Sean would say it gets traffic
