OK, maybe it's just me, but for about the past couple of weeks or so, when the sun goes down, the birds start chattering. They sound like the little birds we get in the summer.

I wouldn't really have thought much about it, I've lived here for the last 7 years and have never heard them at this time of year at sundown, except for the fact that whilst in Cheltenham on Christmas day, I took a walk into the town centre, it was dark just after dusk, and they were at it there too. Cheltenham has a lot of trees in it's town centre too.

That's when it struck me as odd, and remembered I had been hearing them before christmas back home.
I've been hearing them since.

Isn't it odd that I'm hearing these little chirpers at this time of year? I don't hear them during daylight. I remember thinking to myself that the weather is so buggered up, no wonder the birds are confused.
Anyone else been hearing them?

I've also thought it's odd, but, having heard them them chirruping away through the winter nights in recent years (and my sister commented on it also, 12.5 miles away, so it's not just here) there's been no sound of them this time. And I'd know, because we've a thing going on, whereby th'usband's always cold lately & has the heating on full blast when he's here, whereas I'm always too hot, and have the bedroom window wide open - also not sleeping much. There's a big ornamental plum tree right outside my bedroom window which they usually like to sit in and serenade.

Cheltenham? Perhaps it's something to do with the centre of the GCHQ there. :secret:

Just the other day I heard some pigeons saying "Coup" "Coup" :couch:

No?

I've recently noticed some late night cheep-cheeping round my way. I normally consider it to be a result of so much artificial light at night that the poor buggers don't know the time of day.
:dunno:

Can we get any Doom mileage out of this? :D

Yep I've also noticed birds having a bit of a natter at odd times.... although it was a couple of months ago now.
Strange. They make a right racket sometimes. There's also reservoir near mine which is a focal point for all things birdlike..... and a couple of times a year certain species seem to make their noises all night.... squawking and quacking.

The "little" birds are nearly all native. In fact I can't think of one that isn't. What I mean is, they don't go anywhere in winter. Like us, they have their preferences etc. It's been a mild winter so far and I'd hazard a guess they are singing because they're happy about that. What with the extra food, easy access to water etc.

Delving quite deeply into my now defunct 'conspiratorial' bag, I often wondered about those new led streetlamps, as I have noticed the birds (boom-boom) a lot more at night since my LA have run rampant installing the bloody things everywhere.

I wonder if there is any difference in the light they produce in terms of confusing our winged brethren?

EDIT: Damn you knobs and your sensible answers whilst I'm still typing up my nonsense.
