Off to read your bit about cholesterol being too low can cause a bleed now....new one on me!!
:jane:

PS...just read your first bit...my mum's cholesterol was 3.3! As her Dr said, probably lower than jis or mine. It was a cerebral stroke that mum had, which ended up in vascular dementia.
......back to second bit wot you rote now :) ....

PPS...blimmey you've done your homework! Thank you coates!

Whenever I have had a client that has cholesterol problems, I always recommend lecithin.....really difficult to get from our food, but is totally naturally occurring, and seems to stabalise each individuals cholesterol to what is RIGHT FOR THEM. Something allopathic medicine seems to ignore and is ruled by so called statistics when it comes to prescribing.
I'm finding your thread both interesting and informative...thanks coates.

:jane:

Jane, are you saying your mum had a bleed on the brain stroke?I think cerebral is the same.... and was then put on statins? if so that was disgusting malpractice.
Was the 3.3 reading before or after the stroke? if before was she on any other cholesterol drug?

Yes, mum had a bleed on the brain. Yes she was put on statins afterwards. The cholesterol reading was after the stroke. She was on no medication whatsoever of any kind before her stroke. This was 7 years ago when she was 83. She had been showing symptoms of dementia before the stroke...little things like forgetting the words for things, getting to the top of the stairs and forgetting why she'd gone upstairs.......haven't we all done this?
My maternal grandmother also died of senile dementia. So I'm pretty much up for it! :)

They both used those god awful aluminium pressure cookers, aluminium steamers, deoderants etc. I used to tell my mum when I became aware of the 'heavy metal' stuff to throw the pans out......but she didn't.

I think there are a lot of lifestyle choices that bring on dementia. However, people are becoming more and more aware of what they are because they are doing their own research into it. If there is any conspiracy behind dementia then I can see lots of other 'subtle' ways that we are being 'infected'. Having said that, in regards with what we are talking about, the current accepted practices of treating (not) dementia are hugely questionable and controversial and obviously don't work. The old adage of "prevention is better than cure" comes to mind when you look at societies in the world where dementia is almost unheard of.

Oh WOW...just Wow! Hats off to you and your dad! :rose:
I would recommend the lecithin if there is a cholesterol problem yes.
As to coconut oil, besides it seems to stop and reverse dementia in some cases reported so far.....it has LOADS of other health benefits as I am sure you are already aware of. Whether it's a preventative.....I'll let you know in about 30 years....if I remember! :D

I'll dig up some youtube vids 'n' stuff if you or anyone else is interested about coconut oil.

thanks mate...take a look at this awesome info about statins

www.zoeharcombe.com/2013/10/how-statin-d...-one-cell-at-a-time/

If you take a statin drug, if you know someone who does or if you have your cholesterol checked when you visit the doctor, this book is a must read. Read it and then give it to your doctor. If she refuses to read it, you'll want to get another doctor.

Simply stated, statin drugs are mycotoxins. They are fungal toxins. In other words they are POISON. They cause cells to die and that is scientific fact. They are a multimillion dollar scam that have been foisted on an unsuspecting public, doctors and patients alike. They are what results when science and profit cross paths and corruption and profit reign supreme.

The Yoseph's brought all this to light in their masterful work, How Statin Drugs Really Lower Cholesterol and Kill You One Cell At A Time. This new version states the case more concisely and the science is simplified. I am no scientist and marvel at how well the Yosephs take complex science and make it understandable to someone with no background. The history of how statin drugs were developed and how they got FDA approval is a fascinating read. You will never look at the words FDA approved in the same way.

Kudos to the two Yosephs. They deserve much more than just my thanks for their life saving work.

The truth is spreading

Maryanne Demasi is a TV producer on the official Australian television ABC. During the last year she has been preparing two television shows about the cholesterol campaign. We have corresponded for more than a year, so she is well informed.

Last week the first part was aired and you can see it here in the upper left corner (the yellow heart). Below you can listen to the full interviews of those she talked with in the program.

Today Professor Emily Banks, chair of the Advisory Committee on the Safety of Medicines wrote a letter to the ABC warning them against sending the next program (about statin treatment). People will die, she claimed.

Luckily they do not listen to her but will send it this Thursday. I shall send you a link to it as soon as it is available.

Here comes the second part of the ABC TV program. This time about statin treatment. You Tube

Statins are basically a con.

Yes, they lower cholesterol BUT you should only take them if your cholesterol is highly elevated.

Almost all people who I know have been offered statins, EVEN WHEN their cholesterol is normal, which is insane.

The doctors are advised to prescribe them by the drug companies, who pay companies to publish reports saying what they want them to say.

Statins cause so many side effects, joint aches, insomnia, fatigue etc etc.

Which will cause stress, which will kill you.

If your cholesterol is below 7, stop taking them and eat healthy.

Does Low Cholesterol Lead to Strokes? : The People's Pharmacy®
January 24, 2013 www.peoplespharmacy.com/2013/01/24/does-...rol-lead-to-strokes/

Q. I am a 70 year old woman. My cholesterol has always been between 206 and 220 with high HDLs and a good ratio. Last summer, my doctor said 214 is no longer acceptable and put me on simvastatin. My HDL was 65.

My cholesterol has now dropped to 145. Since I've read that low cholesterol may be linked to strokes I am concerned. My mother died of a massive stroke and my father of a cerebral hemorrhage.

My weight and blood pressure are normal and I exercise daily. When I see my doctor again, should I question the need for simvastatin?

A. Low cholesterol has been linked with bleeding strokes. Scientists hypothesize that cholesterol helps strengthen the small arteries that feed the brain. Without it, they become more vulnerable to breakage under stress, which happens when blood pressure rises. That might help explain research findings showing that very low cholesterol poses problems too.

Evidence comes from the Honolulu Heart Program. Scientists at the University of Hawaii studied 3,500 Japanese-American men born between 1900 and 1919. The volunteers' total cholesterol levels were measured when they were middle-aged and again in the early 1990s, when they were elderly. Then the scientists kept tabs on who survived and who died.

To their surprise, the men with the lowest cholesterol levels had the highest risk of dying over the next several years. Those with cholesterol levels between 188 and 209 fared the best. Even men with elevated cholesterol, over 209, were less likely to die from any cause than were those with the lowest cholesterol readings. The investigators confessed their confusion: "We have been unable to explain our results. These data cast doubt on the scientific justification for lowering cholesterol to very low concentrations (less than 4.65 millimoles per liter) [less than 180 milligrams per deciliter] in elderly people."

I. J. Schatzt and colleagues wrote in The Lancet in 2001:

"Our data accord with previous findings of increased mortality in elderly people with low serum cholesterol, and show that long-term persistence of low cholesterol concentration actually increases the risk of death. Thus, the earlier that patients start to have lower cholesterol concentrations, the greater the risk of death."

This may be especially true for older women. With your family history of bleeding strokes, you should certainly discuss this issue with your physician. Your ratio of total cholesterol to good HDL cholesterol was great even before you started on simvastatin. Many experts now believe that this ratio is more important than cholesterol levels alone.

If you have no symptoms of heart disease you may want to ask your doctor why he is so gung ho about getting your cholesterol levels so low. There are no data to show that a woman of your age will benefit from statins in the primary prevention of heart disease. Someone who has had a heart attack or has been clearly diagnosed with heart disease may need such drugs. That is not obvious in your case from what you have described.

Although it often comes as a shock to physicians and patients, there are actually data to suggest that low cholesterol is associated with worse outcomes in older women. European researchers have discovered that elderly women have the lowest risk of death when their cholesterol levels are around 270.

• Forette, Bernard, et al. "Cholesterol as Risk Factor for Mortality in Elderly Women." Lancet 1989; 1:868-870.

• Isles, C. G., et al. "Plasma Cholesterol, Coronary Heart Disease and Cancer in the Renfrew and Paisley Survey." Br. Med. J. 1989; 298:920-924.

• Editorial. "Low Cholesterol and Increased Risk." Lancet 1989; 298:920-924.

To learn more about risk factors and heart disease beyond cholesterol and a variety of other ways to improve your chances of living a long and healthy life we suggest our book, Best Choices From The People's Pharmacy. It deals with the pros and cons of many cholesterol-lowering drugs and offers non-drug approaches you may find worthwhile.
