I hate to say it, but ebay seems to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Yes i know they take their cut, but i havent had a problem buying or selling, and look very closely at the feedback of people. What price do you put on a proper feedback system and being able to see a history of who you are dealing with?
As Dr. Phil says, the best indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour.
When I buy things online outside of ebay ive had issues.
Actually come to think of it i decided to do some google-age... interesting...

I try to avoid ordering off any website which does not have a landline phone number for contact and, preferably, a postal address as well. But that's just me!

Ebay feedback + history works for me
Im not claiming its foolproof, but youve got a damn good shot at getting what you paid for if you use your head and look at the past.
I really have had people try and stitch me up every which way till sunday online, but through ebay they dont have much of a hope in hell of fucking you over and staying on there.
I know i sound like an ebay/paypal whore now, but living in a country where things cost up to double (and then some) than getting them online from the US and UK, its been especially important to me and my business in the past.
Heck two times ive given my CC details to sites to buy stuff online, the card had to be cancelled because it was compromised ffs.
So despite the fees i dont really have a bad word to say about ebay or paypal. Infact if anyone thinks paypal is bad, they should try sending money overseas with Western Union if they really want to know what being financially raped feels like!
