Ok, I've started on the inevitable next step, moving Archived News and General threads into more specific sub-forums when possible as these are the main culprits for being a general dumping ground.

I've already shifted all DI related stuff out of General although there's bound to be bits of him scattered around the forum still.

Finally (for now), we need to differentiate a bit more between General chat and Member's chat. I'd suggest Topical/outside world (though not necessarily Today's) News be discussed in General and more 'personal' stuff in Member's chat.

Is that maybe why the sites badly lagging and taking a week to load a page?

Hmmm, as I'm sorting through the back log of General I'm seeing less and less reason to maintain it. I've moved the last 3 pages now and managed to find somewhere more descriptive for each article. If we want to discuss a News article we can on the thread for it, this thread will eventually end up in Archived News, if not in a more specific category (E.G. an internet related story goes in Tech/Internet rather than just being sat in Archived N ews), so the conversation won't ever be lost, if anything it will be more easily found at a later date.

And an Anthropology section in the Science Zone.

Oh and rename Have A Laugh to Just For Fun so we can put all these 'fun' type tests in there, games, etc so we have a more light-hearted Members bit so the Members Chat can be for 'heavier' stuff.

It's a no brainer for me, General is just a dumping ground for stuff that is mainly Member's chat or News stories that were a bit old when the thread was made so not thought (correctly) to be Today's News and end up in general. And the rest of it (so far) already has a more natural place on the forum according to it's subject.

I also realised I can half the 'filing' I'm doing if I just merged General into Member's chat then tidy everything up from one place. Otherwise I'm gonna move a load of it to Member's chat anyway but a thread at a time (ish).

General is needed because not everyone is a twitching pedant.

Most boards I've been around, General was where approx 90% of the posts got dropped and discussed.

Dont know what was happening earlier OI as i kept getting the google cannot connect message, and when it did it took ages to load a page...dont know if your spring cleaning had anything to do with it, as everything i was doing online was fine..........
