It's merely taking notes of members desires and presenting news to some degree of consensus, perhaps we could have a request thread or something where people can request reports about certain issues, I can then list these requests in my 'special data base'

Once the stories have been reported on they can be marked as either done, or partially covered.

I do think that the stories need to represent a given point of view, perhaps we can't please everyone but can have a system when so many requests for a particular report on the news = A report, the others will be shelved until enough requests have been made.

As I say I don't mind counting and monitoring all this, if the news is going to be presented from democratically compiled data.

To monitor what we are interested in there's always the Today's News, OP's, views and number of responses would give you some gauge of what interests us

Edit - The problem seems to that some of those stories are quite old, so we'd need to track the developments to make them current.
I'd say if the story has been around for over a month it's old news unless there has been 'further developments'.

Edit 2 - I mean when a story is first posted on 'Todays News' it could be looked at by the news team as a possible good story, then when the good stories have been selected, they could be polled for a couple of days, so that the members have some input, I don't think all the stories need to come from that thread, it would however give a bit of democracy for the other members who are not in the News Team.

We could say that perhaps one or two stories always on the news page could come from that source, thus giving the News Team a bit of freedom to source from elsewhere?

Today's News links are moved to Archives after about a month with nobody replying. I've not been as 'on top' of that as usual of late but with the rejig and the addition of Archived News this won't be a problem now. Don't worry too much about getting it wrong either, you seem to be trying too hard to establish exactly what we want to see, I say surprise us. Like I say, you can get a feel from Todays News (and the rest of the site), if you're not already I suggest Liking the SZ FB page. Hugo's been doing a pretty good job of mixing up the material posted and it's mainly reposts from the forum, obviously you guys can't just repost the forum to us. I'd say a happy balance of Top News from the site with 'suggested' stories. Remember it's not just going to be for us who are already members, hopefully people landing on the site for the first time will get a good idea of the 'flavour' of content that lies inside from their first impression whether their first page is the forum or the News page.

I think you guys need to bounce ideas off each other then come back to the community once you've seen what's available to yous. If we all get involved in the process it could take a while to get going. I'd prefer to see something as a base then we can throw in our ideas and you guys can build it from there. Just be prepared to take some constructive criticism non-personally!

I think that if marina is going to create/get some news stories, then that's fine. I have no intention of looking for them, idk if it would be simply just easier to top it up by tagging the 'todays news' thread onto the news page and shove up a couple of relevant pictures, from the popular threads.

I can't even find the archived news ya'll talking about, unless you're talking about the news section from the forum.

I could edit and post the news, I suggest a trial period, see if members like it and what they have to say, and get suggestions on what to post etc.
I'm thinking something in the lines of: Headlines, picture (if applicable), short summary with the link to the whole story. I'm no journalist, I couldn't write the news like the guys from the big papers, but I could re-post them and play with the arrangement and the headline. Worth a try... ehh... Gotta start somewhere..

OK, so, marina, SilverRizla, Mild Peril & Blue Tackler have been added as authors and publishers.

You guys should see an extra menu item now called The Zone, which has a drop down menu.

If you go to Myzone Manager > Add new site article, that will get you to the page you need in order to submit articles. You select the category you would like them to appear in.

Its been a while since ive looked at any of this let alone used it so we're all learning as of now.

the 'members blog' stuff is turned on also but i think that area needs some work so id steer clear of that for now... but headlines, news categories, and the sanctum zone news page should work ok.
