I make no apologies for this being a bit of a long OP, but I need to give you a clear picture of why I have given this thread the title I have,

Let me tell you my story.....
Way back on DIF some of you will remember I started a Valentines Greetings thread. The idea was that people could use me as a go between to send anonymous messages of gratitude and thanks to other forum members. Some of course had fun posting romantic tongue in cheek poems anonymously to other members. This led to some really good friendships being forged, almost a little clique of people who really got on. Something this forum has indeed been accused of on many an occasion.

Well, that thread led to bigger things. It led to some of us actually getting together at a meet up. The idea behind these meet ups was to 'brainstorm' if you will, ideas about how not to beat 'The System', but play them at their own game. These meet ups were held here in Birchwood, and by the 3rd meet up, not only did we have people coming from as far away as Edinburgh and Eastbourne, but I had the feeling somebody would turn up that had not told us that they would.

You see people had to PM me to get the details of where the meet ups were going to be. I would only put out the date on the forum. I asked for people to contact me directly for the where so I could confirm numbers with the local hostelry as to how many lunches they should be prepared for. By now Jim and myself were pretty much convinced that PM's were being read, so it was obvious that if an 'unconfirmed' person turned up, he could only have got that info from reading PM's. Right enough a man called, believe it or not Gareth, turned up. He turned up a little late and left no sooner than we had our lunch. Everybody agreed he was suspect, besides the fact how did he know where to come as he had not contacted me and would not have known who else was coming to get the info off them.

So, the next thing, Very quickly after that meet up, another meet up was being arranged, and lo and behold, Sean starts a thread not only in my name angelchemuel, but my face and signing off with Rainbows, Jane. Jim and I could see what was going on and Jim immediately set about setting up Sanctum 1 as a stepping stone. I did not take part in that thread at all because by now Sean had been called out on it and admitted he had written the thread. So having not been posting anywhere on the DIF for 2 weeks I suddenly found I was banned...and then started the rest of the bannings. To top it all Sean went about deleting all my rainbows Jane sign offs so as to try and avoid any possibility of me doing him for identity theft. Weeman can attest to this.

OK, moving on. Yes, I lost my rag well and truly on here just before Christmas with 2 of the members here in particular. I meant every word I said because in my rant the real reason behind what seemed like my totally out of character behaviour was not explained. For that I do apologise. Jhado was here with me that night and he knows why I did it. Because for the very same reasons I was arranging meet ups on the DIF, I could see why forums are working back to front and as a consequence working against us who take part in them. This will make a little more sense further on.

As some of you know I am also a member over on ATS. So a couple of weeks ago I stated a Valentines Greetings thread over there. Guess what happened? Yes, yet again a little clique of people became the main players. There was not one single troll or nasty post on it. It started taking on a life of its own. One member even wrote a song about the thread and some of its most 'notorious' posters which we adopted as our 'anthem'. Quite rightly I suppose, about a week after Valentines the thread got closed by the mods because valentines day was now over. However, I was inundated with PM's from people who had been following the thread and wondering why such a lovely, fun thread had been closed. One even said it had replaced their 'soap' because it was so full of positive vibes, laughs and creativity.
Here's the thread if any of you fancy a laugh...
www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread996608/pg1

By now we had taken on the name of the Rainbows Room, and people were asking me to start a Rainbow Room thread. So I did, making sure I showed that Valentines wasn't all about the western tradition of anonymous love notes, but had lots of different meanings all over the world and indeed is celebrated on different dates throughout the year. I can't give you a link to that thread because it was suspended pending moderator review, and has since been deleted by ATS. It has taken them 3 days to come back to me with an explanation as to why and why they deleted the thread completely. I am not going to post all their explanations on here because I don't want to get Sanctum into any kind of trouble, suffice to say it opened my eyes up to what is really going on behind forums such as DIF ATS etc and why they do not like people forming
"forum gang" mentality

Whilst waiting for a response as to why Rainbows Room had been suspended, one of the "Forum Gang" had started a short story about The Shed in the writers section. The Shed, you see, was something that came about from the Valentines Greetings thread. She based her little chapters on the "Forum Gang" Characters. Lo and behold the mods have started editing posts they deem to be off topic. So it begins again. Just to add to the bizzare every time the OP has been trying to post since the 'editing' she gets booted off ATS. All she has been able to do is send a PM to me telling me what is happening and it has spooked her. It is seriously as though the "Forum Gang" have been flagged and they are watching our every move/post.

So to bring me full circle. It would appear to me now, that on big forums, where close friendships or "Forum Gangs" form it is frowned upon. You arrange meet ups....no,no,no.....can't have that either. To me it's as though people are being controlled not to form friendships and just get along. It is brazen to me that if people do this they send in trolls or socks or whatever the correct term is, to keep angst going on forums, to keep people divided and in their homes forever going round and round with the same old, same old conspiracy theories or current affairs, but keeping us penned in so we don't get off our arses and do something practical to take on the system. This gives them the time they need to let lose some other kind of restrictions to our freedoms, and the first we know of these things is when we inevitably find out about them on the net.

Ironically tonight I stumbled across this thread that was started 2 days ago
www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread999418/pg1
which just signed it all off for me....it's worth a read.

I'm sorry about the length of this OP. But I have also had Sonia Poulton on my back, and I'm just fed up to the back teeth of trying to spread rainbows anymore. It's a very sad, sad world in the land of internet forums, and the negativity is just dragging me down.

You paint a depressing (and hopeful at the same time) picture, angelchemuel. Thank-you for taking the time to go into detail. I had no idea just how low some people sink when attempting to destroy sincere people's relationships on line.

One positive is that it should now be obvious that all forums are either set up with the aim of controlling opinions or infiltrated for the same reason. This might explain why efforts were made to stop another forum becoming popular. More staff would be needed in order keep things on track. If all the sheep are in one pen you don't need so many sheepdogs.

In my opinion you can not fight this system. The most positive thing anyone can do is to do what you were doing, and that is to meet each other in the real world and create new systems of thought and action, independent of those whose job it is to steer us to their way of thinking.

No television. No taxes. No internet. Just people living their lives for each other, deciding for themselves what is best for their own health and happiness. If everyone did that then there would be no system at all. It could not exist.

Anyway. Thanks again, angelchemuel. The very fact that some people feel it is important to read personal messages and spy on groups of well-meaning people meeting up in the real world suggests to me that those well-meaning people are on the right track.

Thanks Jane, you just confirmed what I thought of ATS since the beginning, that is why I left the place.
Both ATS and DIF are data mining spy agencies. I really didn't know about the thing with the DIF, what a bunch of soulless cunts.

Aye, that doesn't mean forums per se are intrinsically bad things. I've been to pubs that felt a bit Royston Vasey, I didn't let it stop me using all pubs.

There's ways around google and "mainstream internet", if you know how.... but the average user that does facebooking and watching videos and posting on message boards, is quite content with what is, and I don't think they give a shit about privacy, or otherwise they wouldn't tweet every day's "sitting on the toilet" and upload thousands of pictures of themselves and family on facebook.

Actually, when you think about it, that is why you have all the celebrities having twitter and facebook accounts and updating it constantly with tits and ass pictures, or new haircut and duck lips..... people look up at these people, that's why they call them "stars".... quite clever tactic, do what the celebs do.... post where you live, your name, what you like, what you watch, what you read, link to your family members, and you got a full profile.... wow... crazy
Good thing I deleted my facebook 4 years ago, and twitter too, not that I had much info there to start with....

When Google bought YouTube and Microsoft bought Skype it was all too obvious what's going on, keep the data in one place.
That is what ATS and DIF are doing, get all the conspirators together, profile them, eliminate them.

I was a bit iffy joining DIF but I saw something that needed questioning but just gave bare minimum of info when registering - find ATS a bit hard to read with it's layout and not sure if I have ever joined. Facebook after much nagging I joined - it's useful but still the bare minimum of info but I don't half cringe when I see people are posting every little thing in their lives....though have been told I am tad bit paranoid at times :chuckle:

Think the big forums are the ones to be wary about . The only forum I did have a big post count on way back, I found was really cliquey if you didn't go to the meets - fluffy festival forum, Then one of the mods fell out with ptb and started her own which was so much more chilled - no hassle if you were a member of both...even went to a meet :)

It's sad what angel says happened, think knowing the agenda of these forums is a heads up - escape plan at the ready if things go tits up and you can contact people....need to play them at their own game ;)

Comes back to the old adage of, "Guns don't kill people......."
But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma,
a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

Hey Jane!
Just to give your readers a different take on the ATS angle...

Personally speaking, I never thought of using ATS as a social networking tool. Without wishing to seem overly bastardly, I find the majority of human beings that I have met, utterly bloody tedious, and I have to say, that I had no particular wish, when I joined up at ATS, to become involved with personal friendships. I joined to sharpen my wits, to remain informed about crucial matters, and to increase my knowledge of science and technology. These were things which one simply could not discuss with many of my peer group, and indeed people OUTSIDE my peer group in my locality. I am, amongst other nicknames I have acquired locally, called The Wizard, not because I am a magician, but because I like to think about things that are somewhat more... depthy, shall we say, than the last episode of Coronation Street, or the latest *spits loudly (sorry ladies)* One Direction album. That makes me a bit weird by local standards.

As a place to escape the intellectual non-entities with which I share floor space in Essex, the site operates well within my expectations, more often than not. However, as ought to happen when people are thrown together by common interests, I have become used to sharing my time and so on with some of the members there, with whom I feel a bond.

While I understand that, as a quality driven forum, ATS has to keep its content subject specific, I also recognise that in many of the threads to do with world affairs, the answers to conflict, to crisis, to sorrow and the damnation of the human soul, the solutions to these things all revolve around healing, and building, and nurturing communities. When someone posts a thread with the intention of binding a membership together with love, respect, fun, and a sense of brotherhood, it ought to be looked upon as a positive thing. Sure, the threads involved rarely bring anything new to the table, in terms of the sort of subject matter driven content desired in an environment with such lofty goals as stated in the ATS t&c. However, they do promote awareness, understanding, community, and those are all positive things. They are about love at their core, not soppy, stupid, ignorant, blind love, but people, who do not know each other particularly well, sharing the pure wellspring of human compassion, bathing in the waters of peace and harmony. I may be a metal head, a thrashing, windmilling riffmachine, but I LOVE that feeling.

It ought to be supported, because feelings like those engendered by threads like that, are what keeps mankind from wiping itself out in its entirety, every day, of every week, of every year. I would like to thank Jane for advocating that love and compassion, and making the threads she did, and for continuing to support that now.
