An absolutely brilliant, heartwarming and very funny true story. This guy was on a mission, and has an amazing sense of humour.
Not gonna post it here because it's too long, but please have a read - it made my day :D

Having read the story I am now looking forward to seeing this documentary about Muruganantham (Menstrual Man)
https://www.menstrualman.com/

SYNOPSIS
There are men who squirm at the mention of a woman’s period. And then there’s Muruganantham, a school dropout who realised that the majority of women in India couldn’t afford sanitary pads and decided to do something about it. Once mocked by his own community, he is now acknowledged as a visionary for empowering rural women with access to both feminine hygiene and a livelihood.

In telling the story of this unlikeliest of heroes, “Menstrual Man” underscores the importance of empowering women to combat poverty, and the power in every individual to make a difference.

Interesting trailer, but don't think I could sit through a whole documentary on sanitary pads. :chuckle:

At one of my old jobs in a male predominated industry, my male supervisors well you only had to mention "women's problems" when you had had a sick day and they asked what was wrong with you and why you were off and they would put their head down and pretend to be scribbling away. Most men don't like to talk about this stuff which can work to your advantage when you need a duvet day. :killinme:
I did what I thought was best at the time and when I knew better I did better. :)

In fairness, my grandmother used to tutt and rapidly switch channels when they started airing 'advertisements' for such accoutrement.

I can only assume she enforced my initial mistrust and feelings of abhorrence at female plumbing. Bless her.

I think women, themselves, are to blame for this weirdness surrounding the female menstrual cycle. The covert shenanigans that inevitably surround something that is, in essence, a very natural occurence creates some strange mystiqie that make it almost impossible for men to engage in, or understand.
Ultumately the only conditioned response to "Wimmins" mysterys is driven by schoolboy encounters with the issue.
In my experience the whole thing seems to resemble a Freemasons gathering with tampons/pads being passed back and forth in a sort of ritualistic, secret handshake scenario.
:couch: Gonna get some female venom for that, I expect.

I've gotta kind of agree here, but I think the lack of openness on this subject goes way deep into the mists of time & has to do with some sense that women are unclean whilst menstruating. Where that originally came from I have no idea.

I'm kind of wishing I hadnt posted the trailer now, because I really wanted people to read the story in my original post. I know its long and some people dont really have the time or the inclination (and it is an uncomfortable subject for some). But this guy is AWESOME in my book. The things he went through and was still able to keep his sense of humour, all to help women & to bring this subject out of the dark ages. The strory is very funny and touching.

I would be interested to hear wether anyone commenting had read the story or only watched the trailer.

I'm right though Psketti - Deny it at your peril. :D

I've always been "menstrual positive" Apart from needing body armour with some partners - I feel I have been supportive when needed and politely fucked off down the shed when demanded. Its just a thing. But always get your instructions before the event - like partners of werewolves have to.

I don;t know if this is true - but a little bird told me that female sanitary products are apparently VAT rated. Obviously I don't know for sure but surely this is an absolute disgrace.
Why the hell should women pay a tax on something that is a necessity and cannot be avoided. Unless they adopt the same methods used in the OP's (QS) introductory film. Those methods are obviously insanitory and can/could lead to untold medical complications for those women and by proxy, a further, avoidable, burden on local healthcare facilities.
Tell me this isn't true - especially in the 21st Century and particularly in the first world which should, surely, be setting the standards which the third world should be aspiring to.

Sanitary products used to be taxed at 5% but I don;t know if that's still the case.

I reckon they should be free or at least on a minimal cost on prescription, very expensive if you have a houseful of women to cater for.

Bear in mind...these are the same people that tried to tax windows, and more recently, bedrooms.
