I think of cliques as a refuge for the moral cowards who are unable to stand on their own convictions. So they go out creating a consensus of protection dosed liberally with gossip and character assasination of anyone without (outside the clique that is)

Being a bit of a pariah in almost every group of people I have ever encountered, I could see it that way, but I don't.

Cliques are exclusive and cruel. That is not the same as feeling outside of a group that you have not got to know.

I don't really mind cliques when the're just groups of people who want to keep to their own group, often they are frightened of losing position if they loosen the tightness of the clique, the thing with them is that they are static, they can move between various cliques that they are affiliated with, clique A can even at times merge with clique B, some clique members are in both...

So then there is a ring of cliques that is made up of intertwined cliques the ones that are in more than one clique provided the link...

With a few key players operating between the cliques, binding them, each clique relying on the others to provide a constructive agreement

I tend to be wandering around the outside nodding and exchanging small pleasantries with one or two on the exterior, thought I know they're thinking about their clique at the time.

That's just how I see it, it's as much of a restraint as a key.

They are bound to that format, to quote Bob Dylan '' "Are birds free from the chains of the skyway" I think that's to be taken in a proverbial manner.
