Hello :)

So africa, it was some 30 odd years since live aid and the whole geldof thing. So basicly people are still starving to death. And forgin policy on aid should get a major overall.

We all know the money, food, medical supplys etc dont get to the most hard hit of people, even the blind and ignorant cant argue against that, it's clear for anyone too see now!

Do they know it's chrismas? The question was/is "Did they actuly give a fuck?"
I dont think they did at time, nor have they done in the last 30+ years that have passed since.

So what's the answer?

One solution is, to have the biggest internationaly coordinated humanitarian projects the world has ever seen!

Western country's goverments should work with govs of hard hit countrys in a more structured a, better coordinated effort and a major part being that the west should start recruiting retired/semi retired/unmeployed etc people with building skills etc... and they should set up projects where these people are goverment funded and sent over to the worst hit regions with materials and work. They will obviously get stuff paid for them food place to stay etc.

People could get placement via local jobcenters and project centers rangeing from a few weeks, a few months, or a year + and the people could work While these men and women are there they can teach the people building skills how to make tools etc what's the ansewer?

Also we could get all the retired weapons of war tanks, helicoptots, guns bullet, shell cases, ships, etc.. The whole fucken lot and recycle it to make tools, and building materials ie nails screws fixings chissels metal sheets for roofs etc the list is endless.

Also we can get the bankers to get funding a lot of it too lest people will see somthing physical for the money.
managed to put the same idea out there a few years ago via a message to a Us show X-Zone radio, the gust at the time seemed to think it was good idea, what do you think?

There is absolutely no reason for anyone in Afrika to be unable to feed themselves. The continent is abundant in all the natural resources its needs to support any population size it may have.

People starving in Afrika is purely and wholly down to Corporatism and corruption of its governments. End of.

VERY INTERESTING-LOOK IT UP: What was the population of Ethiopia during the Live Aid fiasco and what is it now? Think about it....

Hi wise good post dude, yeah that would certainly be intresting to see its populaion figures. Yeah tbh i took africa/live aid that being probly the biggest publicly and being of a young age at the time i thought it would be intesting to see whats changed/happening in relation to eithiopia and aid etc in general and how possable would the idea in the Op be? As its not just africa but the whole billions going missing every year on aid etc

another thing they dont want the african people having such skills etc cos that means they could mine etc their own minerals etc so the poverty and oppression conginues like its always done.

It chokes me up when they put ad's on the telly asking for hand outs for these people and show the poverty they live in - skeletal babies drinking drty water etc - but you know it's not the answer to hand over money, because they're deliberately being kept poor & repressed.

I do not donate to any major charities any more....Am I evil? No, I spent a long time investigating these so called charities and found out how much or how little actually gets to the victim. That poor abused child in NSPCC adverts.....the animal threatened with extinction in WWF ads....starving children "Everywhere" -. I came to the conclusion that the only way to change things was to stop donating - because all that does is keep that system going.
While the corporations rape the planet and humanity - we, the caring people, only subsidize this monstrous pillage. We, take on moral responsibility for this slavery - we become enablers for those corporations. We make it OK. We take care of shit so THEY the corporations dont have to.....
Thats what I believe....

I donate a fair whack to local charities - I know they get the funds. Went to a fund-raiser for Miles of Smiles last week that was a good do, and we're told on the night in front of the charity's representative how much has been raised. But no, these big affairs are bent. I couldn't tell you the details now, but when my daughter was little I paid a monthly donation towards saving some animal or other through WWF or whatever it's called, till I read some bad things about them. They're not to be trusted.

The word "Charity" in the UK is a very manipulated use of the English language.

Most common, decent folk think the word means donating to a moral or human cause. And, bless 'em they do donate for that reason

The reality is totally different. The vast majority of so called "Charity" causes are politically driven organbisations that hide under the label.

Why would any decent human give tax relief to any organisation that had a political goal that only benefited the already privileged?

Indeed, education is a noble goal - but one has to question the motive of that so called "Education" and what it is,,,,

take a look at google maps, focus in on Ethiopia on satellite view, it is surprisingly green,
then go to the thread on CGI and realise that there can be money made from creating illusions :conf:

Never mind that - somebody find and publish the Ethiopian population then and what it is now.....that is really important to put it in perspective. I'm not going to do it because I know......people need to do it individually to realise the importance of that.

Large swathes of africa are relatively resource rich. One of the underlying reasons for the huge amount of abject poverty is that super rich wankers, mostly from the west but not exclusively have long since claimed ownership of those resources deemed valuable. By force more often than not. Which leaves the locals scrabbling for what remains.
It's a fucking massive crime and cunts like geldof can shove it up their pompous self righteous arses. Feed the world? That line should have been, stop robbing these poor bastards blind you utter wankers. Imo.

I could never work out why the ads said people in Africa drink dirty water. We worked out there on and off for years and everyone boiled the water, including us. It was what my GP advised doing instead of using chlorine.
It pisses me off when they put starving children on tv at dinner time though. Don't like ad placement like that.

I'd agree with you on the whole debt thing. It's all being manipulated by the west imo, because it suits and whatever money is left out there, well, if you think our governments are corrupt - they could take lessons from some African govts. I don't agree with whoever said you could grow everything you need out there. Maybe in some areas, but the soil we tried cultivate was dead as a maggot. Whole place was barren and the soil was like a rock. The machinery to break that type of soil for farming is not available out in the stix. It can be rented from the citys, but there aint no one wealthy enough to own it in rural areas. That - and the only currency I saw was moonshine, sunflower seeds and weed which seemed to just recirculate in the local areas.

Wipe the debts and then do a deal to supply Africa with all the solar panels it needs to provide energy to the world.

@serp.
Hemp could and should be used in the soil conditions you describe. Hemp will grow in ground that most other plants will not. It is iirc one of the fastest growing annuals on earth. The green matter can then be turned into the ground as a green manure. It is claimed that if hemp were planted around the margins of the sahara say, not only could the desert be held back but it could be reduced and fertile land created.
Of course over a period of decades.

I spent a lot of time working in Afrika - In the cities and the bush.

Corruption is widespread, usually promoted and encouraged by corporate interests - no one needs to go hungry there. The only killer disease is that which has been introduced - it doesnt have a vaccine, surprisingly - because that disease has vested interests.
