Question:

If a drunken broken-bottle-wielding homicidal maniac ran at you, outside a bar for example, yelling "I'm gonna fucking kill you!!", what would you do?

Personally, I'd dodge the bottle and try to kick him as hard as possible in the nuts.
However, some people out there believe that that would not be the best course of action.
So, I've got approximately three seconds before this guy stabs my face off. According to some, what I should actually do is try to get this guy to see that infinite love is the only answer.
By the time I've uttered the words universal conciousness and meditation OOPS! I've just been cut open with a bottle and am being repeatedly stabbed.

Good one.
My point is this, yes, love and mutual respect have their place. In a perfect world all should respect one another and not do unto anyone else that which they would not like to be done to them. You don't steal a toy from a child because you know that for the child, it will seem like the end of the world and they will cry for an eternity. You know that because when you were young, someone stole/broke/lost one of your toys, and you cried too.

Unfortunately, shock horror, we do not live in a perfect world. AND, we are not talking about people trying to steal our toys. We are talking about people trying to kill us. (and doing a pretty good job of it too).

So, like I said before... I'm all for peace and love, but when a madman comes at you with an offensive weapon shouting "death to the useless eaters!!" My advice is kick him as hard as you can, and if you need to... run! But remember that the madman we are talking about here is a globally reaching, unrelenting, psychopath. He's proven time and time again that he WILL NOT STOP. So if you do manage to kick and run, fair play to you. Just be ready to fight the next time you meet him. Because funnily enough, the psychopaths that are slowly culling all of us are not listening to David Icke, or that brilliant THRIVE movie, (cough*shills*cough*cough), or the latest "how to love youself" self help CD. NO, they are not. They just want to carry on killing us. Who the fuck knows why... I have many ideas, but so fucking what! Lots of people have theories and ideas about why they are trying to kill us. Bravo! It still doesn't change the fact that they will not stop.

If your car stops on a level crossing and you cant move it, and there's a train coming, are you going to hypothesize for the next twenty minutes and get crushed to death by 300 tons of steel, or would you get the fuck out of the car?

I've heard the arguments FOR peace and love. Personally, I'm going to stick with steel toecap boots and my wits. I'd love to hear from anyone that agrees with me.

As for the peace and love massive, I wish you all the very best of luck. I'll leave a few pitch forks in my garden shed. They're there if you need them ;)

I am quite into the whole peace and love thing - In the scenario you give - there is immediate danger. to both the person being run at and everyone else in the room. Doing what you need to in order to stop the danger is one thing - what you do once the danger has passed is what matters. It also matters whether or not any force you use in order to dissipate any danger is necessary.

There is an argument that says with a little more fairness, love, equality, personal responsibility and respect the likelihood of someone getting to a place where they are so disjointed that they attack a random will diminish.

Who can say if that is or is not true - all I know is that the world has not existed to my knowledge with those values being the norm in the mainstream.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

Peace and love is a laudable aspiration but homo sapiens still have a lot of evolving to do before that could even be a feasible discussion.

We are still territorial pack animals and act accordingly.
That primeval instinct is the one most commonly played upon to keep us divided and manageable.

Until everyone is prepared to overcome that impulse you have to be ready to meet fire with fire.

It sucks but there we are.

Good points. I would agree. However, what do we class as immediate danger? I used the drunken bar brawl analogy because I feel that a lot of us truthy folk are missing the point that the danger we face IS here and now. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally against scaremongering, but at at the same time I would argue that to reach the conditions for your scenario, we need to fight first. We need to fight for the right to have peace and love, but how can we logically win that fight using only peace and love as our weapons of choice?

I would run. I'm a woman and wouldn't have the strength to fight a homicidal maniac.

I'm all for love and discussion but under certain circumstances survival is more important.

If my loved ones were with me and in danger....and I had a gun .....I would shoot him.

Having been in a similar situation like the scenario you describe, I agree and disagree. If I see an opportunity to reason with another, I will. If that person(s) are beyond reason, or there is no time for reasoning, then I will defend myself. I won't feel guilty about it either. How-ever, I don't go looking for fights.

Once the dangerous nutter is safely down on the deck writhing in agony & holding his crotch, then perhaps thats the more appropriate time for a little lecture on the joys of infinite love eh.

& maybe another quick kick to the gonads before you move off could be called for...just to make sure the message has sunk in properly like :D

In the physical sense, me neither. Although I'd never, and have never, gone down in one and not planning to either.

Agreed. I grew up in an area where the maxim on the street was "It's better to be tried by twelve than carried by six."
If in doubt, knock them out. You can talk later if you're still breathing.

I'm not delighted by those standards, but I'm still here.

I'd scream, shout "blancmange" and point to a window above him...then I'd kick him in the nuts.

Won't this thread encourage drunken broken-bottle-wielding homicidal maniacs to wear some kind of bollock protection?

The blancmange method would be much more stylish and entertaining if caught on cctv. As for bollock protection encouragement, I'm just getting the ebay shop ready now ;)
Apparently tiger print is in demand...

What colour bollock protection would you wear?
(I'm sure bollock protection is not the exact technical term, no?) :D
