I dumped Catholicism at age 13 when I started to really understand the "rubbish" it was. Luckily, I hadn't been brought up in a heavily Catholic family, so wasn't indoctrinated too badly. Even so, it took about 13 years more to purge it from my system (and, still today, there are one or two underlying superstitions remaining).
During the Purging Years, I would have called myself an atheist - but I think that was really anger at the ideas I'd been taught throughout my childhood. So, to me, today, I see atheism as almost a religion in itself - I'd never talked or thought as much about God or Church or Church Rules as I did in those times.
Nowadays, I believe in "something", but I can't say exactly what or how it works. I LOVE quantum stuff and the more I've read of that, the more I can see a real purpose and "programming" in everything; but not "set programming". It can be altered, reproduced, created... Hmmm, quantum is the language of gods, I suspect. Or part of its alphabet.
I kind of see "The Creator" as a HUGE, ENORMOUS nuclear plant - churning out energy and creative particles endlessly for us to do with what we will. I don't believe this "creator" knows or interacts with me individually - and I don't think it has to. In a peculiar way, it's aware of me through the billions of particles that form me, each containing its knowledge, wisdom, power, Source.
But it's not my butler (more's the pity)! so calling on it, pleading, beggin, supplicating and praying is the same as asking Sellafield to turn on your cooker and roast the chicken for dinner.
The power is given inherently. Use it, or don't. It's learning to use it and the time it takes that is my stumbling block.
