Landscapes will be transformed into eye-sores & property values will probably fall into negative equity for many.

Sorry, Jhado, I didn't see your question earlier.

I've never heard of Barton Moss. I'll have to Google it now.

They're really ramping up coverage on the old wireless today. Have to say though, the anti-frackers aren't generally being portrayed in a very good light.

Edit: I said anti-frackers rather than antimacassars...

Haven't heard that yet, but of the folks they've interviewed, they've mainly been a bit "shouty" and nonsensical tbh. It also sounds a bit like most of them are chained to trees.

A lot of emphasis appears to have been placed on the fact that LAs will be receiving 100% payments, which is odd, given the motivations of the people you'd imagine would be present at such a demonstration.

You know, usual stuff...

doesn't surprise me that they interview the loud and slightly crazy ones, can't have people thinking they might go up there and join them :(

are LA's legal advisors?
I'm surprised anyones getting payment, although just because it's reported in the news doesn't necessarily make it true

Sorry Mart - Local Authorities. Of those I've heard, they seem to be griping about local residents not getting a share when councils will be, which from what I understand is far, far from the actual issue.

You mean those miserable fuckers that don't want the water supply to be polluted just so that Total can make another billion? What a bunch of cunts. I don't think the BBC are hard enough on them.

This is what I head on the radio this morning. Listen from 21:00 to this programme:

Well, Barton Moss is just before Barton bridge heading towards the Trafford Centre in Eccles, just 9 miles away fro me. Now depending which direction they are going to frak...ie towards Warrington, then I am going to get very worried. You see the ground under the M62 between Manchester and Warrington is straight over some old mines. If you drive down that part of the motorway, you can feel the undulations, especially in a truck. This is because of the slow subsidence going on.
They go sucking more stuff out of that area....well...
Here's a map...
maps.google.co.uk/

Isn't Space Bandit in Manchester?

:jane:

PS Once you go over Barton Bridge there is a humongous sewage works which services that side of Manchester at least. What's the betting if there's any contamination they'll blame it on that? Also, years ago they were clearing that area and draining it etc and I always wondered what for....well now I know why...this has been on the books for donkeys years

I caught a report about fracking this morning. They described the cash on offer to councils allowing fracking as an incentive to stop some of the opposition.
Which when translated equates to, bribery. Does it not?

Do I infer from your post that it isn't the British press calling it a bribe then Jane?

I just had a quick look at the BBC Jane and they do have a quote from some Greenpeace bloke calling it a bribe but that's all I can see at the mo.

I must say though that if you click the highest rated comments on that story, people are talking an awful lot of sense.
One of the top comments has the line "You live in a corporatocracy dressed as a liberal democracy."
Couldn't have put it better meself :chuckle:

EDIT: Just seen you added a link to the Beeb. Yep that story is the one I'm referring to.

People of the World. If your local representatives opt to allow this lunacy, immediately boot them out. They are insane and not fit for purpose. If somehow it does get the go ahead to happen in your area, physically stop them. Precedents have already been set but you will need to go a lot further. An awful lot further.

There are a few headlines using the words 'bribe' or 'bribery' here:

www.theguardian.com/environment/blog/201...s-high-energy-prices

www.independent.co.uk/environment/govern...rojects-9057077.html

news.uk.msn.com/bribe-anger-as-pm-backs-fracking-2

www.express.co.uk/news/uk/453731/Bribery...or-allowing-fracking

The thing is that this amply demonstrates that Britain is not a democracy. I disagree with representative democracy anyway, but this succinctly shows that your vote doesn't count for anything and lays bare who really controls public policy, yet when it comes round to election time they will all report on it as if it actually matters.

The scale they're talking about is massive. I hope the public are getting that over a period of time, they're planning to dig up vast areas of Lancashire & Cumbria. They're going to fuck the area up.

Given the communication I posted recently from my local MP, stating that the government intend to overrule councils who oppose this, regardless of whether the land's council owned, it's looking like a forgone conclusion that they're just going to plough ahead with it.

Spot on!....and then do what the Belgians did and leave it to the civil service/departments to carry out what the people want...gets rid of parliament in one fell swoop.

As to Barton Moss...I was very confused by this.....
As I mentioned in a post above, that whole swathe...and we are talking about an area that goes from Barton Bridge (M60) heading north along its east side almost up to what is known as the East Lancs Road has been having a lot of groundwork done to it for the last 5 years. I checked it out with Space Bandit last night, and he confirmed this land is owned by Peel Holdings.....the same people who built the Trafford Centre. He confirmed that all that land (which has the frakking site on it) has been earmarked for all sorts of sports stuff including a racecourse,

There are some other things going on, including here in Birchwood, which are setting off my spidery senses.....there are other 'dots' out there that are not clear to see atm but are all connected somehow........I need my second brew....but there is more to this frakking crap than meets the eye........kettle on....roll fag....fingers to keyboard....
