Yeah, I bet those children felt great, getting their lunches snatched from under their noses. What a set of bastards, pulling a stunt like that!

When my lad was just little, he got worried because his teacher told the class anyone who hadn't paid for their school dinners was stealing food. You only had to pay weekly, but I'd paid for in for the full term in advance, and I'd be amazed if I was the only one to do that, so there was no justification for harassing the kids about money, and imo, they were way out of order trying to guilt them out instead of speaking to parents who were in arrears.

Yeah I agree it's bullshit to throw away the food in front of them. Who is this official ordering people to do that? Who are the peons listening to it? Fuck.. people have just given over. Its beyond my control etc...

Even if I was in arrears , DON'T take it out on my child, who is totally innocent and dependent upon me paying it. God that makes me mad.

It's not happened to me as we don't have that system in Australia... but non payment shouldn't be taken out on the kids. They need to eat.

The poorest kids at school used to get dinner tickets don't they do that anymore?

Yes, some get free school lunches - it's means tested. But I know it's common around here for some who are paying to be late, because every school letter I've ever seen has had a general reminder on. Lots of people who aren't eligible are skint.

They weren't even efficient with their record keeping though at one school my son attended, & I used to regularly get letters demanding dinner money, and have to go in and point out that the reason I'd sent no money that week was because I'd paid the whole term in advance, so there was nothing due. I also had to tell them to credit payments back for every time he'd been off sick so hadn't had a lunch there, because they never did it automatically.

I also went in & had words when he took packed lunches, and a dinner lady confiscated a mini-Mars Bar off him, saying he couldn't have it because they're unhealthy. And when he was tiny, and came home gagging & dehydrated in hot weather, because he'd left his water bottle in the dinner hall, and nobody would allow him to nip & get it.

They even sent me 'reminder' letters a couple of times after he'd stopped getting school lunches altogether.

I moved him from that school because I couldn't stand those officious twats!
