There is near-zero chance of them winning a single seat at Westminster in 2015 - even Farage tacitly acknowleges that. The first past the post system precludes that.

I believe what they are hoping is that a good result in the Euro and council elections will scare the other parties into a referendum.

Why not just push for direct democracy like the Swiss instead then? If they were libertarian then this is what they would be pushing for right?

Farage has made it abundantly clear that UKIP's raison d'etre is the withdrawal of the UK from the EU.

As I recall he also instructed that the party manifesto etc be ripped up and rewritten.

I think that the UKIP public relations guys know that they have a chance to gain seats with dissatisfaction with the EU.

They also know that the following other policies might lose them seats:
  • cuts in corporation tax and the abolition of inheritance tax (i.e. tax cuts for the rich)
  • dramatically cutting the Department of Health

I think that they would very much like voters to view a vote for them as a reforendum on the EU and NOT be made aware of their other rather more Thatcherite policies. ;)

The man credited as the founder (rather than just a founding member) is one Alan Sked (in 1993) who has since left the UKIP and formed the party New Deal giving the reason that the UKIP had been taken over by the far right.

Farage only became the party leader in 2006 so the idea that Farage and UKIP are one and the same is nonsense.
