After fellow councillors condemned the remarks as ‘shocking’ and ‘atrocious’, Mrs Driver offered her ‘sincere apologies’ in an open letter.

Speaking to the BBC, she added she did not condone rape but hoped her controversial remarks would be a catalyst to start a debate about it.

‘I shouldn’t have said it, but perhaps on the other hand this puts rape right in the spotlight and perhaps we can do something positive out of this,’ she said.

Not even a true apology, imo she only regrets being caught out, then attempts to put a spin on it by saying it might start debate about rape, as if she has done a good thing.....i have my opinion on what she is and its not to far away from psychopathy

was she actually discussing rape at the time? If not then its just a saying, a less PC way of saying when life gives you lemons make lemonade. I don't see what all the fuss is about, unless she was actually discussing rape and that was her actual answer, which would of course be crazy. But if just a general comment, no biggie for me, not something I would say but does not prove she is a monster either - though being a Tory Councillor she probably is:-)
