Looking in to the women in sweden who made the 'complaints' will explain all imho ;)

He's still not actually been charged with anything afaik and lets face it, this much effort would not be put in to extraditing someone like Kissinger for war crimes and genocide.

Statement on UK threat to storm

Ecuadorian embassy

and arrest Julian Assange

Thursday 16th August, 3:00am UTC

In a communication this morning to the government of Ecuador, the UK threatened to forcefully enter the Ecuadorian embassy in London and arrest Julian Assange.

The UK claims the power to do so under the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987.

This claim is without basis.

By midnight, two hours prior to the time of this announcement, the embassy had been surrounded by police, in a menacing show of force.

Any transgression against the sanctity of the embassy is a unilateral and shameful act, and a violation of the Vienna Convention, which protects embassies worldwide.

This threat is designed to preempt Ecuador’s imminent decision on whether it will grant Julian Assange political asylum, and to bully Ecuador into a decision that is agreeable to the United Kingdom and its allies.

WikiLeaks condemns in the strongest possible terms the UK’s resort to intimidation.

A threat of this nature is a hostile and extreme act, which is not proportionate to the circumstances, and an unprecedented assault on the rights of asylum seekers worldwide.

We draw attention to the fact that the United Nations General Assembly has unanimously declared in Resolution 2312 (1967) that

"the grant of asylum. . . is a peaceful and humanitarian act and that, as such, it cannot be regarded as unfriendly by any other State."

Pursuant to this resolution, a decision to grant asylum cannot be construed by another State as an unfriendly act. Neither can there be diplomatic consequences for granting asylum.

We remind the public that these extraordinary actions are being taken to detain a man who has not been charged with any crime in any country.

WikiLeaks joins the Government of Ecuador in urging the UK to resolve this situation according to peaceful norms of conduct.

We further urge the UK government to show restraint, and to consider the dire ramifications of any violation of the elementary norms of international law.

We ask that the UK respect Ecuador’s sovereign right to deliver a decision of its own making on Julian Assange’s asylum bid.

Noting that Ecuador has called for emergency summits of OAS and UNASUR in response to this development, WikiLeaks asks those bodies to support Ecuador’s rights in this matter, and to oppose any attempts to coerce a decision.

We note with interest that this development coincides with the UK Secretary of State William Hague’s assumption of executive responsibilities during the vacation of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

Mr Hague’s department, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, has overseen the negotiations to date with Ecuador in the matter of Mr Assange’s asylum bid.

If Mr Hague has, as would be expected, approved this decision, WikiLeaks calls for his immediate resignation.

A couple of interesting bits here, including speculation that Assange may possibly have switched places with a pizza delivery man & scooted off on his bicycle...

CLOUD OVER EMBASSY STATUS AHEAD OF ASSANGE DECISION
By Philip Williams and Will Ockenden, ABC
Updated August 16, 2012, 8:46 pm

The British Foreign Office says it is too early to say when or if it will revoke the Ecuadorian embassy's diplomatic status in an effort to arrest WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Mr Assange is holed up in the embassy in London after claiming asylum there back in June, and Ecuador is hours away from announcing its decision on whether to grant him further protection.

Reporting from outside the Ecuadorian embassy, ABC London correspondent Philip Williams says the British threat to arrest Mr Assange has severely strained ties between London and Quito.

"Clearly the British government doesn't want to go to those lengths," Williams said.

"Perhaps they're using it as a threat, but all the same the Ecuadorian government is offended by that.

"They say they have been trying to negotiate an end to this and they see that as a very hostile act by Britain."

Supporters of the WikiLeaks founder spent the night protesting outside the Ecuadorian embassy.

Police descended on the embassy on Wednesday night (local time) as the protesters gathered and broadcast the scene live on the internet.

The diplomatic tangle surrounding Mr Assange's case grew even more complicated after Ecuador said Britain was claiming the right to raid its embassy.

The protesters antagonised a handful of police who were present but spent most of their time looking for coffee.

With only 20 of them, they also called on more people to join in the protest.

"We need more people down here guys, if you're around London or in London near Knightsbridge, make your way over," they said.

Police said they were there to keep the peace and protect the embassy but they allowed the protesters free movement.

Police allowed one woman to ring the embassy's doorbell as she tried to contact Mr Assange.

Decision looms

Mr Assange has spent most of the past two months holed up in the embassy.

The latest Assange saga started earlier this week when British newspaper The Guardian reported the Ecuadorian government had granted Assange asylum.

Bambuser came under a distributed denial-of-service attack on Thursday morning, possibly in connection with a user's coverage of the Ecuadorian embassy where Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is holed up.

The connection is not certain, but Bambuser's Swedish proprietors say they had received threatening tweets just prior to the attack. Bambuser chief Jonas Vig told ZDNet that the DDoS took the service down for "almost an hour" and made it "hard to reach for another hour".

Bambuser lets people stream live video from their smartphones to the web. It has become very popular with activists and protestors, from the Occupy movement to Russia and Syria. The service has come under attack before, with the attacks generally coinciding with marches and protests that are being covered on Bambuser.

Greg Callus, a trainee barrister (@greg_callus), reckons he's found an instance in which the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987 has been used before by the government: in a bid to remove squatters from the Cambodian embassy in 1988. Take a look here.

Good question but Bradley Manning's fate is sealed and his treatment over the last year gives us some indication as to what awaits Assange.

As for Gary, I expect he is watching the Embassy situation very closely.

Assange and Manning will be made examples of for sure.
Message will be sent clearly. "Don't even think about fucking with us!"

McKinnon's case is a bit more complex because of his obvious Aspergers issues. Not sure what the outcome will be there.

Sam as Bradley Manning, he'll be put in prison permanently and they'll hope we just forget about them .
