I'd really love to hear an Anarcho Feminists critique of the idea - which i;ve heard repeated all day in the media today- that Thatcher did a great deal for the cause of feminism/female emancipation.
I would struggle to name one identifiable social group that the policies of her government helped in any way other than banks, corporations and financial speculators, so how anyone could possibly defend her on women's rights, I have no idea. Literally the only possible argument that could be put forward is "she was a woman". Even that's debatable...

Couldn't agree more, especially the last bit :D

My response to the accusation of misogyny from those showing concern about the lables given to Thatcher would be to ask them whether any of the following women deserved vulgar gender-orientated epithet:

1) Hilary Clinton
2) Michelle Obama
3) Glenda Jackson
4) Cheryle Blair
5) Mo Mowlam

If excuses and exceptions are made, then one can assume a partisan based "femminism".

My own opinion of these women as politicians and as people varies greatly.

Back in 2005, anarchist collective Chumbawumba recorded an EP called "In Memoriam: Margaret Thatcher" which they would keep under wraps until the prime minister passed away. Since Thatcher did pass earlier this week, the band has delivered the EP and is also streaming the release online. Along with that, the band delivered a eulogy:

Let's make it clear: This is a cause to celebrate, to party, to stamp the dirt down. Tomorrow we can carry on shouting and writing and working and singing and striking against the successive governments that have so clearly followed Thatcher's Slash & Burn policies, none more so than the present lot. But for now, we can have a drink and a dance and propose a toast to the demise of someone who blighted so many people's lives for so long. If we must show a little reverence and decorum at this time, then so be it. Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of all Margaret Thatcher's victims.

So the Mail have gone about destroying these two teachers lives and careers with a smear story because, as you know, teachers are not allowed a political opinion outside the classroom. Unless it is mourning Our Glorious Leader. Right?

But they seem to have misunderstood public opinion.

As predicted...
Hundreds of police on stand-by as anarchists threaten to hold mass Margaret Thatcher death 'party'

- Class War to hold Trafalgar Square demo on Saturday

- Funeral will see biggest security operation since Olympics

- 'Ring of steel' on three-mile route of procession

Hundreds of police are on stand-by in London as anarchists threatened a mass “party” in Trafalgar Square to celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher.

Scotland Yard revealed that it has already launched a major operation to counter threats of disorder in the run up to her funeral next week.

All further leave for officers has been cancelled and operations are being run from a special command and control operations room in Lambeth.

Protesters say a demonstration in Trafalgar Square on Saturday will be a focus for discontent in the run up to next Wednesday’s funeral.

The event is being organised by anarchist group Class War while other groups such as the All London Anarchist Revolutionary Mob, which says it is “committed to radical action to undermine the state,” are also mobilising supporters to attend.

Senior police officers are said to have been initially “quite relaxed” about security in London following Mrs Thatcher’s death but views have hardened since unrest in Brixton and Bristol where seven police officers were injured.

The funeral itself will see the biggest security operation in the UK since the Olympics with hundreds of armed officers forming a “ring of steel” along the three mile procession route from Westminster to St Paul’s Cathedral.

Senior officers, who began planning for the event two years ago, are acutely aware threats could come from militant far left groups, anarchists and Irish terrorists.

Marksmen will be deployed on rooftops and undercover officers will mingle with crowds to spot known trouble makers.

Blanket stop and search powers are expected to be introduced in the run up to the funeral with officers using powers of pre-emptive arrest to target known trouble-makers travelling to the event.

Individuals who are obsessed with Mrs Thatcher will also be vetted to ensure they do not pose a threat at her funeral.

The Met’s Fixated Threat Assessment Centre, which monitors disturbed individuals are obsessed with public figures, has a list of Thatcher fanatics.

Police are already monitoring social networking sites for plans for parties to “celebrate” Mrs Thatcher’s death.

They are aware of the Trafalgar Square event and are preparing an “appropriate” plan to counter any possible trouble.

Police will put in place plans worked out following the 2011 riots in which mobile flying groups of officers will immediately respond to flashpoints of violence and disorder.

The comments and clicks were not going the way the Mail wanted so they've updated the story with some irrelevant info about the female teacher having NHS breast implants and reset the comments.
They're pre-moderating them now, Dacre must have hit the roof when he read those. I guess that's those famous Mail values of free speech in action.
