Scientist Dr Craig Venter, who was one of the first to sequence the human genome, has called for all unvaccinated children to be banned from school.

He told the Times that said such children were a "hazard to society".

It echoes calls Dr Paul Offit, a US-based measles expert, that vaccination should be mandatory.

He says such a policy, which can affect school admittance and job offers in the US, had prevented similar outbreaks there.

It is not compulsory as people can object on health, philosophical and religious grounds.

A similar scheme is not expected in the UK.

Another thing I find extremely suspect about vaccines is how much they're pushed via the media when considering '3rd world' poverty and child mortality. The campaigns would run and we'd be told that 'for only a fiver' a child can be treated with a vaccine which 'might' help alleviate the effects of the dirty water which they're forced to drink. Surely for all that money that gets donated there's a way to provide them with a clean and permanent water supply instead of injecting them with weird poisons and bits of dead animals and aborted babies and stuff?

Herd immunity is the idea that when a certain percentage of a population is vaccinated, those within the population who are not vaccinated are protected from the disease. This is a fairly straightforward concept; if 90 percent of a population is immune, then the chances that a carrier of the disease will come into contact with a non-immune member of the population (or "herd") is low. [1]. Herd immunity is the goal of most vaccination programs as it is the point where a disease can start to be eliminated altogether from a population, as is the case for polio in the western world.[2]

That's the prevailing wisdom on how to avoid pandemics, what would you suggest instead?

'Daybreak' had found a nursery in Swansea in which there had been four cases of the virus. This was attributed to people refusing to use the MMR vaccine due to safety concerns, but the four children that had caught the measles had all been vaccinated!
wow this made me have a thought:

If 'herd immunity' exists, why would it be necessary to ban children that haven't been vaccinated from schools?

Vaccinations/no vaccinations; it really makes no difference whatsoever, nothing will halt or even hinder disease. I think that the population figures have far more to do with the statistics regarding the spread of disease/illness than the redundant pro/anti immunisation argument.
More people; more illness, simple.

Remember this?

I remember it, because I remember watching it with my mum and her husband who were both totally taken in by it, while I pointed out that this was complete hysteria, that nothing significant would occur, that they wouldn't be treading over dead bodies on the way to work, and that they would forget it had ever been predicted in due course.

Note what one of the Youtube commenters who posted the video said:
I completely agree with your comment my friend. My hope is that we can survive this and remain triumphant in the face of adversity. take care my friend and stay well, and i hope we can speak again very soon.
I hope (s)he made it through the pandemic alive!

I completely agree WUB; media hysteria rarely, if ever, amounts to anything. The point I was making was that as the global population increases exponentially, so do the cases of illness and disease. I think the hysteria comes from seeing large detailed patterns in things without taking into account population increase. There is a great deal of sense in the concept of immunisation, but in practice the diseases are well ahead of us in terms of relative intelligence. Vaccines are becoming obsolete as diseases mutate and evolve at a far quicker pace than our 'experts' and technology can handle. I've recently had first hand experience of just how extremely aggressive and dare I say, intelligent, these diseases are. I've not changed my mind however, I still believe there is a significant risk with or without immunisation. These diseases are highly intelligent and adaptable, and we are pretty much flying blind in terms of immunisation, treatment and diagnosis.

I definitely wouldn't disagree with any of that, large parts of medical science are little more than stabbing in the dark. I listened to a program about Prozac the other day, obviously reviled by many people, and even the doctors that were defending its usage just openly stated that they have no idea why it causes some people to feel better (a pretty trivial percentage, in my opinion, considering the damage it also does).

Have your kids had vaccines?

Individual vaccines, without the mercury.
I paid 90 quid for each one 4 in total for each kid and I have 4 kids so 16 x 90 quid.

You get what you pay for I suppose.

Along with population increase there is population density and interaction eg international travel to consider as variables.
Both of which are on the increase as populations are tending towards extreme urban densities in asia and air travel is quite cheap.

Exactly Andy; theres so many variables that the media 'experts' fail to consider when either playing down or hyping up their stats.

Aaah prozac! I have a hunch that the long term implications of this haphazard social/medical experiment with manufactured 'happiness', have yet to be fully realised. I remember reading somewhere about the dramatic fluctuation in alzheimers diagnosis in people who had been prescribed SSRI's long term.

Outperformed by a sugar pill in tests:

c'mon WUB, be serious for a minute, obviously unvaccinated members of the "herd" undermine the whole principle of herd immunity :study:

What's the point in vaccinating people if when you come into contact with even one unvaccinated person then you're apparently at risk? Surely the vaccine protects you?
