They walk when they walk. You have to live with that.

Wouldn't be an issue if we had this shortlist thingy up and running anyway...

I don't, I'm not a mod.

By not imposing those conditions the rest of you would have conditions (extra workload) placed on yourselves during the interim period IF my proposal were to happen.

IF that proposal was put to me I would not be a mod 9 3/4 seconds later. :P

Dubs, I think we got a new battle cry.

Its catchy :) pretty much sums up my well aired view too :)
Only prob is i just unilaterally declared peace again..... you wer exactly 17.46 seconds behind. Dang that's a shame :(
Still i'll probably redeclare war in the next 27.34 minutes if i know me so i shall add it to the flip top file marked "suitable rallying cries which i purloined but will claim i came up with" so cheers :)

A volunteer doesn't HAVE to do anything they choose not to.
Anyone attempting to impose extra workload or conditions on them will inevitably find themselves a volunteer down.

It wouldn't be an imposed extra workload, a mod down would lead to an increased workload...if you lot actually do owt that is! That's it! It's all a ruse to generate traffic this having mods who don't really mod malarkey!

You swines!

I'll be straight mate.
All today has done for me is convince me we'll get nowhere near resolving things as a group because so much time will be spent on pedantry and trying to lasso unicorns in the mist.

Sorry but hey. :dunno:

It's the first wave, the giddiness and banter would soon dissipate.

Anyway, shove a cornet ice cream on a donkey's nose and you got a unimule. It's all about compromise.

My compromise was sitting through an entire day of this cyclical, brow-beating, sloganeering.
I won't be sitting through another.

If these threads were an example of the proposed decision making process, for relatively simple issues, I neither have the time nor interest and I'm not sure how many others will either.

More slogans bro? (p.s. I've never read Gormenghast but I can hazard a guess).
Slogans that imply if you don't comply you're obviously some kind of oppressor. c'mon man.

"Should we strive for consensus whenever possible?"
What next?
Should we strive to save drowning puppies from a raging river wherever possible?
Should we strive to ensure all the little starving children eat wherever possible?
Should we strive to ensure world peace and harmony for all wherever possible?

Who is seriously going to say no to any of those blatantly manipulative questions?
Is it realistic to save all the pups, feed all the kids and secure world peace though?
I think not eh?

Is that a bummer? Yup!

We are all a minority of one. Most of us have adapted to not getting our way all of the time.
In a typical vote scenario we'd each have the opportunity to put our case/viewpoint and people are able to weigh up their preferences.
If it didn't pan out your way, maybe you had a weak proposal or didn't present a very convincing case.
Yup, it happens, move on and try to do better next time. It's not "the others" fault you failed to convince them.
I apologise for the use of the segregation "quotation marks," (can't think where I picked that up from).

It all comes over a bit fundamentalist to be honest.
The crusade for the Grail.
The simplistic slogans.
The outrage.
Everyone not in lock-step is branded some form of hell-bound sinner/Kafir and should be burned at the stake.

It must be a wonderful luxury never to be found wanting because you won't be seen dead carrying any form of office of service badge. It's so much easier to stand at the back and chuck things at anyone who is prepared to do that.

It's really easy to demolish things, you don't have to be concerned too much about the mess.
It's much harder to build something.
There will be a snagging list, there will be crap materials that don't come up to spec' and have to be ripped out and replaced, some sections will be held up with props until you can accurately calculate the load bearing and hard hats will be required.

But they shouldn't be required in case you get hit by a lobbed half-brick by someone impatient or discontent with the rate of progress or because something is off +-0.005ths of an inch. Grab a shovel and barrow and expect to get dirty.

If you seriously believe that people will want to indulge in endless dialogue about how many days a poll should stand or what the acceptable ratio should be etc until everyone reaches a point of consent, if not complete agreement, I think you are sadly mistaken. People have active busy lives, they won't waste time on that trivia.
This is simply a message board community. People come to be informed, entertained or chat shit with friends.
Clog it up with that chokeweed and it will die a rapid death.

I spent some time last night looking for alternatives if this was the way SZ was heading tbh.
As I've said before it's a message board, not a Neu Rebublik. Let's keep a wee bit of perspective please. :lick:

No more pennies left.

You said this better than I ever could, my old mucker.

I think it particularly applies where posters may feel like they are being ignored and ganged up on, too. I do appreciate that this possibly isn't what you meant though. :P

I've seen enough of that kind of thing on other sites to know that's just how it is, particularly once the rot sets in. Like attracts like, as ever. I will also say though, this place is different in that I sincerely believe EVERYONE, no matter their viewpoint, is at the very least afforded an opportunity to make their case. I've said that of us from the very beginning.

There may well be a majority here who think a certain way or have similar views, but as previously highlighted, that is the nature of forum-land, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your point of view. For the most part, people are given fair space to make their case here, without fear of name calling or taunting.

These people may not even be a majority, they may just be the folks who can be arsed to sign in and post. Is that their fault? I don't see how. This is as true for here as it is for places like 'DIF' (except I do feel our t&cs here are a little more allowing for differences of opinion than some other places - AND you're allowed to talk about stuff that pisses you off, like shit moderators). The only way to change that, if you've a mind to, is to post. It's really that simple.

:dunno:

Anyway, this is probably the wrong thread. I've just been stewing on it a while.
