For arguments sake, the mods decided a new mod was needed, feather got the gig. Now if it had been a more contentious proposal we could be discussing it and resolving the whole process for days, weeks, months. Meanwhile the mods are one short.
Woah there neddy!
The mods decided a new mod was needed.
Feather was approached to see if he may consider a position. (I took that as a common courtesy btw).
Feather said he would for a temp period on both sides.
Feather accepted the gig ONLY AFTER the membership's approval was sought.
That was no done deal or as simplistic as your sentence there may suggest.

I clarify that because those details were important for me.

It was merely for brevity. You've got all defensive since they gave you your badge! :P

I would suggest a thread where people may state an interest in taking on mod duties should the occasion arise.

I am of the opinion that it is quite bad form to just suggest people without enquiring if they would be interested/prepared first as it may put them under pressure.

I would go for a deadline for submitting a list of nominations.
Each person submits 1 nomination in a publicly viewable thread and we give it say a couple weeks to ensure as many as possible (at least forum regulars) get to give some input and then go from there.

I'd say whatever timescale is decided is also incorporated into future mod "contracts". If you accept to be a mod you also agree to give Xdays notice if you wish to leave the role. Xdays being the agreed period for selecting a new mod.

Seconded.

OK, let's put it to a vote requiring 71.4% approval.

We agreed on 71.4% right?

Or at least 71.4% of us did.

I don't agree that a mod should have to serve a period of 'notice' if they want to quit, sorry.

OK, agreeing to be a mod means you may have to carry a bit extra weight during the selection process for a new mod.

There shouldn't be any conditions imposed when it comes to a mod wanting to quit imo. There are many reasons why someone might not be able to be here to fulfil such requirements even if they wanted to/had previously agreed to do so.

Its not on to even ask that of someone...remember mods are members with lives outside the internet, just like you..

Well it has to be either of the above suggestions in one form or another or we leave it up to the mods which brings us full circle to my points in the OP.
