Rant section is either to communicate with other members or it isn't.

OTOH if people want to spy then 72 hours will suffice.

I too, would like to see your private areas, Huge.

Thank you, please.

Good point.

It was more about outing socks from my part. We've just got rid of a handful, a handful of new members have appeared and are all 'dormant'.

Dawny, way I see it is it is a small community, if people wanna join in they are welcome, not posting doesn't really show they are joining in in my book.

This place is awesome and I invite people regularly.

There must be a few of you guys who remember just that.

BUT

modding this place and keeping it from turning into Sodlike takes effort and quite frankly AFAIK that is a thankless, in fact less than thankless job.

So.

We have something approaching a democratic system in which people can voice concern about rights to post.

SHOW ME A FORUM THAT DOES THAT

and I will be enthralled

And NO that doesn't mean that I will shut up the next time a fucking racist sexist wingnut shows up

Cos I have my voice too

Dawn, the only difference between a member who doesn't post, and a non-member, is that the former can view the private sections. To my mind, if they don't want to contribute, they can content themselves with just looking at the open sections as a non-member.

Banning non-posters won't get shut of all socks-in-waiting. There's one now who joined the same day as a known, since banned, repeat offender. That id said hi, so he's safe, and has been silent since. He'll pop up spraying crap at some point.

But it'll get rid of some. :)

If someone posts, even just a "Hi I'm New", their I.P. can be checked. If it matches a known cock sock you can get rid right away.

Many boards ask for an introductory post. a) To break the ice and b) to check your I.P./ get an idea if you're using a proxy I.P.
It's good, reasonable board management
.
If we want more participation from those who read the site, I'd suggest we lock down more of it from public view. (Perhaps even leaving only General open), otherwise where's the incentive to sign up?

Is it a discussion community or a voyeurs library?

Agreed on all points (I'd add Today's News to your General selection). It would be good also if new members access could still be restricted until they have made an initial post although I'm not sure if that's a viable option.

Oh btw.

Before the whining starts, it's a real shame that groups have to resort to fuckery like this but it's because of serial asswipes like Mike, Irre, RA etc that it becomes a necessity.
So thanks for that you bellends.

There is an option for moderators to approve of new members posts. They just wont show until they are approved. Anyone with mod status gets an email, plus any posts also show to moderators as pending in the category they were posted in.

So mods dont even need to check their emails, a 'pending' indicator shows up on the forum, ive turned it on in the past to try it, you cant miss it.

The number of posts a new member has to make before this goes away can be set by us. Lets say i set it at 5 posts, then once a new member has made 5 and each has been approved (and hence show on the forum like a regular post) , any posts after that will then go straight up and appear/be published like everyone elses.

And of course the categories can be hidden from guests yes, any or all can be set to be visible to registered and logged in users only, just like the members area and vent room are now.

Part of the message is hidden for the guests. Please log in or register to see it.

No go on that one, cant happen automatically.

Something like this could only be done manually with permission levels, new members would have to be added by a mod in the backend.

Erm...

Gonna have to voice a no on this one based purely on the fact that I've registered myself at a few places and not posted for long enough sometimes. Don't like the idea of getting rid before they've done anything, at all.

I also don't think the place won't attract more people either mostly down to the fact that the TPV thing is a fucking shambles and will ultimiately result in people leaving that place... so stragglers may end up here again and sign up and browse.

I realise it's courteous to say hello when you sign up but by no means should it ever be a requirement.

Plus... I don't think we should be changing to accomodate any shit the trolling has caused... we don't need too - we're on top of it, so what's the problem?

Just the way I see it.. sorry folks.

"I had a lot of jobs before I became an actor: chopped tobacco, sold women's shoes. One thing you learn selling women's shoes is that all women lie about their shoe size. All women. And I mean all women. What is this horribly screwed-up thing that women have been taught that large feet are not attractive?"
