Oh yeah. And tbf, feather you and i are as 'guilty' of what i am on about as anyone else. I'm surprised you don't see that. The spriggans do that sort of thing in pastys though innit.
I'm also surprised that given my opinion is 'no need for any of these polls just let the mods do their job and do the sensible thing re new members.......and chill the fuck out'.....you aren't actually patting me on the back and saying well done son you got there eventually...

Is it still paranioa if it's real?

To my recollection... mild peril was mislabelled a sock and was apologised to and returned to the fold.

Cousin Frothy was mislabelled a sock, (although he was wearing a sock when re-discovered), and has been returned to the fold.
Not a bad average when you consider the number of repeat offenders this site draws eh?

So is it really fair to label it a paranoia and diss those we asked to make judgement call on our behalf?

Speaking generally (i.e. not having a dig at anybody) the number of people who mention this so called 'paranoia' could do well to note just how many of these relentless bastards have come in here. It's not paranoia, it's a matter of fact. :noway:

*Edit* Your post wasn't there when I typed this, so it's a case of great minds thinking alike. :D

Well heh bite me but i have seen a lot of posts that clearly intimate suspicion of sockery with new members..I've also made those posts...as have; feather, gilly, the sket, andy, gp...
The public sock hunt that oi thought i was calling for is exactly what i see!
That makes the place unwelcoming. I don't feel comfortable with that.
Folk can deny it all they like but it's just as real as the trollsock twats.

Who, i'll reiterate.. Are and should be banned on discovery...

Indeed we can certainly be that dubs.
Yet both of us would accept a sanction if it were laid on us by the community because we recognise we can get heated and you often cross the line. :D
Joking aside, we've both taken voluntary time out because we were playing rough or getting too emotional.

This 2/3rds thing really hampers us getting anywhere imo. Some people will be disappointed with the outcomes.
Here's a hanky, get on with your life folks.

You're far from there yet son, keep walking.

I agree and that's why I support a clear out of dead wood and modufacilators approval for noobs.

We have to put some distance between this current set of expectations and responses and the future.

So what about the idea I proposed about having a new members sub forum, where they can be monitored and brought through?

Is it possible for SZ to create a subforum where new members can come to without them being able to post on the rest of SZ until approved?

Surely this could solve a lot of issues in one go, so what about it?

It could also be where other posters are restricted to when on a warning, and perhaps have limited pms etc?

Is such a level of posting restriction possible?

I think a moderated subforum for new members is the only answer.
This is where my bottom line would be if it existed.

From the OP:
None of them are 2 horse races so the potential for a not-clear cut winner (66% exists). If this is the case in any instance I suggest the poll is reset with only the contentious votes remaining.

What I actually meant by that was in a 2 horse race 66% is the clear cut winner, I wasn't suggesting it for these polls unless there was a contentious result. Since we've given up on the notion of consensus (for now) I'd have said 2 of the polls are pretty clear cut.
Non-posters
a) Leave them be, they're just shy and/or nosey. 6 votes
b) Bin them after a set time if they have not posted. 13 votes
c) Bin them if they don't post on their first visit 2 votes

So in a 2 horse race that's a & b, b got more than double a.

On this basis the New Members vote is even more clear a mandate.

The Sock vote was basically split between as is and clamp down more, the middle ground there would appear to be what you are appealing for Dubs.

As for "sock paranoia" one a day for the last few weeks wouldn't be considered paranoia if it was black helicopters at your window.
If you have any issues with the forum or it's members, for a speedier response, rather than pressing the report button, please post them here: sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/Forum-Projects--...scussion-thread.html

i concur but you kniw what i mean know you do.
I aint calling for the repirt suspiciins to mods or else route. I am saying lets keep things welcoming and friendly for new members.
Trollsocks will quickly reveal themselves. And then we can burn them.
We do have a fully functioning pm system ;)

To insulate the general membership? Do you propose the general members be locked out of that forum unless they are in orange overalls and on gruel rations at the time?

Imo anyone who is at the stage of needing their pm's restricted is passed the stage of needing their arse tossed on the kerb.

So it can be said that common sense has prevailed ;)
Back to the point about the pointlessness of the polls.
The common sense approach is to activate new members, have a dormant account clear out regularly and to be vigilant of trollsockery but not actively scanning the horizon for it like some reverse concentration camp...

I appreciate you're trying to think of ways to make things work, BT, but I don't think that's a practical solution tbh.

I propose that the 'arrivals thread' is joined by a 'new members general thread' In a newcomers sub forum.
Both of which can be accessed by new and existing members, new members will not have any other access to the rest of SZ until they have been seen as genuine for a period, this can be based on their posts towards existing members and other newcomers...

Once they have satisfied the general population then they could be included to the rest of SZ via being nominated by a member to the facilitators, perhaps we could say three nominations would be enough ?
This is where my bottom line would be if it existed.

Start a poll BT! :chuckle:

I think it overcomplicates things tbh.
Why not just see how the new policy of accounts being vetted first goes rather than have new members become performing seals?

Ok where did i get it wrong?

From what I can infer, most of us want rid of the 0 post old accounts (not the low posters they stay) and to change signups to admin approval from now on until we decide otherwise.

As for socks no change there because the new member signup basically takes care of it.
