Such a sad story, terrible, sorry for posting it:
A bright 21-year-old killed herself after more than 200 unsuccessful job applications.

Vicky Harrison had dreamed of a career as a teacher or a television producer, but gave up hope for the future, her family said yesterday.

A day after her latest rejection, and on the eve of her fortnightly trip to sign on, she wrote heartbreaking notes to her parents and boyfriend saying 'I don't want to be me any more' and took a huge drug overdose.
Her death last month tragically highlights the human cost of the highest level of joblessness since the mid-1990s. Rising youth unemployment has led to warnings about a 'lost generation'.

Miss Harrison's devastated parents called yesterday for more help for young jobseekers, telling how the never-ending search for work had driven their daughter to despair.

Her father Tony, 53, said: 'I lost track of the different types of jobs she applied for. It was really hard seeing her confidence suffer after each rejection. She just wanted to work and earn some cash. I didn't realise how hard it would be to get a job.'

Miss Harrison grew up in Darwen, Lancashire, and passed ten good GCSEs at Moorland High School before gaining A-levels in film and media studies and English language at Runshaw College, Leyland.

Very sad. 200 is nothing these days either. When I was 21 I think I applied for two or three jobs before I got one. Even then I didn't stick it very long and had another within the week.

Not so any more, unfortunately.

Why? Cos..
a) You don't need a degree
b) Its the highest paid job going on qualification along with the highest paid during training.

Trouble is, its a 'just over broke' PAYE position...so why kill yourself over it? :)

The gov ought to employ me to chat to these poor kids who are worried about 'J.O.B's' lol :p

They're saying it's the worst since the mid 90's, but I don't remember it being as bad then as it is now. Maybe I'm just seeing it differently now because I've a daughter who left college last time and can't find a job, with 4 'A' levels - works a few hours a week at Gregg's. So she's going to start uni in September, with all the accrual of debt that now incurs.

I went to the same college as the girl in the OP. Poor girl, to feel so useless and defeated at such a tender age. And the pain left for her parents to bear must be intolerable. :(

I feel very sad for today's youngsters. Little chance of getting jobs / mortgages. It's so hard for them to become independent adults.

Very scared myself if I lost my job not to sure what i would do. Mortgage etc. If we do not work we can lose our homes and our families suffer.

You're not imagining it.
Finding work and more importantly making ends meet is indeed getting more difficult all the time.
Its inevitable for as long as the current economic system remains in place, but bear in mind I predicted on DIF a lot of things ;)
