But we have to blame somebody, why in your view not immigrants? :yinyan:

You're an educated man Gue, why not put the blame where it belongs? With a system that requires unemployed people for it to work?

Most of them are coming to the country with fuck all, so we can probably lump them under the broarder heading of 'poor people'.

That winds up people more though Lesley, they might say "poor foreigners come here for the NHS because they can't afford healthcare at home, immigrants cause a drain on the benefits system" etc, how would you respond if someone brought it up?

Many immigrants I've known rarely stay poor for long, this also pisses off the average joe struggling to get a check out job at the local supermarket.

That's capitalism. People follow the money.

I am poor so I know what i'm talking about, seriously though, I've known people from Eastern Europe, Morocco, Asia they all have the drive to escape poverty when they get here and it doesn't usually take them long.

Making money in this country isn't as hard as getting out of some countries ;)

A man burned himself to death in western France on Wednesday after losing unemployment benefits in a suicide that is becoming part of a worrying trend as the country struggles through tough economic times.
By FRANCE 24 / France3 (video)
Joseph BAMAT (text)

At noon on Wednesday, a 43-year-old man got off a bus near a state employment agency in the western city of Nantes. He stopped on a side street around 50 metres from the office, where he discarded his house keys, then doused himself with gasoline. French police waiting at the scene saw the burning man arrive at a sprint and said that, despite efforts to put out the flames, it was too late.

The case of Djamal Chaab, whose application for jobless benefits had been rejected by the agency earlier in the week, has caused consternation in France. It is the latest in a growing list of job-related suicides to hit the country, which is struggling with low growth and record high unemployment.
www.france24.com/en/20130214-france-suic...tion-welfare-economy
With jobs harder to find in Japan's sluggish economy, the nation has seen an alarming rise in the number of suicides among college and university students who are stressed out about not finding work.

According to the National Police Agency, 529 university students committed suicide in 2011. Of these, 41 killed themselves because they "failed to find a job." This is 3.2 times higher than in 2007, when the agency first began investigating the precise reasons behind suicides.

Now, universities are taking steps to prevent the mental strain that often accompanies job searches, which can result in stressed-out students taking their own lives.

Universities have been providing students with consultations with clinical psychologists via e-mail or psychological care at career support centers.

A universal trend it seems?

They don't escape poverty.

Poverty is anyone with less than a million as pocket change to throw around with complete abandon.
Theres guys who invest 10's of times that amount just as a tax dodge and they really couldn't give a shit if it doesn't bear fruit cos they'd be robbed of it otherwise and there's literally thousands of people just like that.

Poor is someone who has to borrow to make any major purchase, someone who pays taxes and is reliant on the state and thats billions of people. Having a job that pays 20k and has 20% income tax deducted and then VAT on piles of purchases and loan payments on all sorts of crap is not out of the poverty trap.

Even much of the middle class are reliant on a state pension, get it right :)

They escape starvation level poverty where they come from to be replaced with just over broke poverty here and they think its great, that is basically the mentality. They're not wealthy by any means. They're still poor.

If you've lived in Morocco, escaped the mandatory army service and moved to South England, you've escaped poverty ;)

I like your overall point though you frame it quite antagonistically.

Nietzsche did my melon in, Camus soothed me, Sartre gave me the slap around the chops.

I just realised, I got most of my politics from musicians, philosophers and football(ers).

Not a politician in sight!

I've never read any Sartre, he was an evel communist :D

I've heard his work on Dialectics is among the best it's titanic though, my knowledge of existentialism comes through ghetto rick roderick mp3's I had an audiobook of the stranger and a bob solomon course in existentialism, from them I dipped into the various authors over long periods.

I struggle to consider Camus a philosopher, he was more of a trickster imo, a dirty Commie trickster..

What better way to scare the crap out of your slaves and keep their wages low?
This is how the game works, pretty obvious when you look at it.
