Why the residents of Boston are so happy about being locked down like dogs and having their homes stormed by goons with machine guns i'll never know.
Blimey.

It's kinda interesting the way the WWIII approach didn't really achieve anything. The guy was wounded so there's a good chance he'd have ended up hiding in that boat anyway (he may well have been unaware of the size of the operation anyway, just known from common sense he'd be being hunted) and it's the fact someone went outside for air that got him caught.

I'm not sure of the exact dynamics of the 'house to house searches' that were mentioned, but I think I wouldn't let the plod in my house without a warrant, horrible bombing or not. I'm pretty sure I'd notice a wounded bomber in my house and would be frankly insulted by the suggestion as a random citizen I might have taken it upon myself to hide them. Knock and ask, but please don't come in. Though I don't know if they actually entered people's homes or if so how many. Anyone know?

I fully understand the public desire for him to be caught, but I also think the just short of deploying stealth bombers approach was concerningly militaristic., though the circumstances were extraordinary.

Heard some Russian studies guy on the news this morning saying a link to Syrian rebels stuff was on one of the bomber's social media page. He reckoned the Russians will probably play on that. Dunno if he's right. Time will tell.

A lot has been made of the huge operation to catch the guy but I think it stands to reason that a violent guy, with bombs and guns who has apparently killed 4 and injured many more, would face the full resources of federal government. ATF,FBI, BPD, DA office. There were other police units too like the local police etc. So many groups involved in finding this guy because I don`t think the general public would accept it any other outcome.

There was a huge street party once the guy was caught and the crowd were cheering those cop cars as they left the scene. A few people were pissed off about the intrusion but seriously those people probably didn`t lose any loved ones at the marathon blasts.

Yes I take your point.

But I nevertheless cannot help but not be too fond of the stand aside citizens! let the armoured cars through! approach. Not in OMG it dawn of the police state they're going to take away the guns and put the whole of Boston in FEMA camps Alex Jones way, but I do think hang on this was a really, really bad thing but one armed guy is not like Godzilla who is going to destroy the entire city single handed. The urge to catch them was enormous given the nature of the crime, but the one on the run at that point was no greater threat than any other individual with a gun. Unless he could pull bombs out of his ass.

And, as I said, the irony is the police overkill didn't actually achieve anything. The guys revealed themselves in the first place and then some member of the public found the one that got away.

I see your point DM (dangermouse?) but I think we saw all the amateur sleuths blaming the wrong guys and I think if everybody with a gun was out looking we could have had a lot of guys that looked a little suspicious being shot. I know the guy was not anymore dangerous than the next nut with a gun but this guy had little to lose and had already crossed that line. So yeah I see your point but....

Ok guys....Monday's ratings are going to be fucking awesome...get all the advertisers on the phone right now...let the bidding war commence

So Glenn...just what is this enormous revelation?

Ah we know he's well dodgy and it's all pretty embarrassing. Saudi buttkissing bullshit. I'll ramp it up, copy a bunch of stuff from Alex Jones and get carried away with innuendo and speculation to make out he did the bombings. Fuck it. Jones is going to shit his pants when he sees my numbers for Monday. Shit...maybe I should string it out a bit longer? Y'know, do a cliffhanger, save the punchline for Tuesday...?

I can see both sides. I don't disagree with what you;re saying (though with the caveat that one incident does not signify anything too dramatic if it remains confined to an extraordinary incident level) and I also think i-baster makes good points.

If only. That would be awesome. Particularly with a large pipe. I have always fancied getting a pipe. Nothing makes you look clever like a really big pipe. You can tinker with it for ages and then say Well... safe in the knowledge the pipe will make you wise.

As the soft option, I may work on cultivating this look.

That's a good pondering look. And you just know whatever he says is going to be spot on. Even if it isn't. The ponder power will make it spot on.

I'm just not ready for the pro circuit.

Each and every single incident chips away at liberties, until there's none left.
