'He was just relaxed': After attack, Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev partied, went to gym
The 19-year-old UMass-Dartmouth sophomore acted as if everything was normal following the attack, friends said. Tsarnaev was described as a nice kid who liked soccer and never shared any radical ideas
He was hardly running scared.
As authorities worked vigorously to identify the culprits behind the carnage at the Boston Marathon, 19-year-old suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev acted as if everything was normal.
The sophomore attended a party two days after Monday’s bombing. He hit the gym. And he went to his dorm room at UMass-Dartmouth for a night’s rest, according to reports.
“He was just relaxed,” a student who claimed to be at the same party Wednesday night as Tsarnaev told The Boston Globe.
But Tsarnaev and his 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, became the nation’s most wanted men when a campus police officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was shot dead Thursday night — at their hands, police said.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed during an ensuing shootout with police, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was finally captured Friday night after a daylong manhunt outside of Boston in Watertown, about an hour north from his college.
But as the rest of the country wanted to know who could have planted two deadly bombs that killed three spectators and injured more than 180 people, Tsarnaev was apparently keeping up appearances.
“He had the balls to come back and act like everything was OK, like nothing happened,” friend Andrew Glasby told ABC News.
Glasby said he lives a floor above Tsarnaev and they happened to talk a day after the bombing.
“I thought it was just regular old Jahar,” Glasby said, referring to Tsarnaev’s nickname. “We had a typical conversation, he was not startled, he was not scared, he was not anything. He was just the same old Jahar.”
UMass confirmed that Tsarnaev was on campus Wednesday, and that his access card swipes showed he visited the gym and went to his dorm room that night, ABC News reported.
Glasby said Tsarnaev even offered to give him a lift to his family’s home on Friday.
“I was just shocked,” Glasby said after hearing his friend was identified as the alleged bomber. “Shocked is the word for it. I did not expect it. This was out of nowhere.”
Tsarnaev enjoyed playing intramural soccer and soccer video games, listening to hip-hop and using marijuana, although he said he had stopped smoking this year, Glasby said.
He never spoke about radical beliefs or political motivations, friends added.

Taxi driver Paul said: They didnt have any cases — just one piece of hand luggage. Shakil didnt seem to have a care in the world.
He wasnt twitchy or nervous and he was talking to the other guy in English as well as talking to me.
He said he was going to see his dad because he was ill and hadnt seen him for eight years.
He said his dad was a millionaire and was living in the mountains.
His friend was sitting in the front but didnt say much.
When I heard there had been arrests at Manchester Airport it registered with me because Id been there in the morning.
But I was stunned when I realised it was Mohammed who had been arrested.
During the 55-mile, £60 taxi ride Paul chatted to Shakil about race and religion.
Paul said: He was saying he didnt have a problem about Asians and whites marrying.
And in the past he never seemed particularly religious. He said if he wanted a drink hed have a drink.

The night before terrorists struck New York and Washington, three men spewed anti-American sentiments in a bar and talked of impending bloodshed, according to a strip club manager interviewed by the FBI. John Kap, manager of the Pink Pony and Red Eyed Jack's Sports Bar in Daytona Beach, said the men made the claims to a bartender and a patron. "They were talking about what a bad place America is. They said 'Wait 'til tomorrow. America is going to see bloodshed,"' Kap said.
He said he told FBI investigators the men in his bar spent $200 to $300 apiece on lap dances and drinks, paying with credit cards. Kap said he gave the FBI credit card receipts and a business card left by one man and a copy of the Quran that was left at the bar.

The 9/11 Vegas mystery: Why DID hijackers visit Sin City five times before attacks?
Ten years after 9/11, a key question at the heart of the plot remains unanswered - why did the terrorists spend so much time in Las Vegas?
Police went to tremendous lengths to piece together the hijackers movements in the days, weeks and months before they crashed airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Despite checking out thousands of leads in Sin City, police never came up with a definitive reason why ringleader Mohammed Atta and his Al Qaeda accomplices visited Las Vegas as many as five times before the attacks.
Maybe because they're not Muslim extremists and the whole thing is bullshit? Or maybe this was the reason?
'Unlike most people who visit hotel/casinos that replicate the Pyramids, Europe or the New York City Skyline, the leaders and their logistics men stayed at the not-so-glamorous end of the Las Vegas Strip, at cheap motels guaranteed not to have surveillance cameras.
They stayed briefly, only as long as it took to exchange important information.'
Of course, they could have just not trained in the United States in the first place, never even reaching a competent level as pilots, before leaving a string of clues behind them! Like the passport that survived, while all the building were pulverised to dust!
I'm sure the majority of people will suck up this latest FBI explanation, though. "Right, well, we've definitely aided and abetted terrorism in the past, that's a fact, but we've investigated further, and we've come to the conclusion that we're not involved this time."
So we can rule that one out completely. All that remains to be seen now is whether the federal government, which is hugely guilty of war crimes and terrorism itself, wishes to pass any more legislation like the PATRIOT Act, John Warner National Defense Authorization Act, unconsitutionally and illegally wirelessly wiretap people, intercept phone calls, emails and constantly monitor Internet activity, and so on, for absolutely everyone in the United States, and whether the police want to abuse these unconstitutional powers over and over again to target everyday Americans. They probably won't extend their completely unjustified and brutal policies of rendition, torture, indefinite detention of terror suspects, rabid drone bombing, etc, this time, but who knows, the good old government might just throw that one into the mix just to keep things interesting.
