Three members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot have been jailed for two years after staging an anti-Vladimir Putin protest in a Moscow cathedral.
Judge Marina Syrova convicted the women of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, saying they had "crudely undermined social order".
The women say the protest, in February, was directed at the Russian Orthodox Church leader's support for Mr Putin.
The closely-watched trial has inflamed opinion both at home and abroad.

Ex-world chess champion Garry Kasparov was among several people arrested outside the court in Moscow, where three members of Pussy Riot punk band were found guilty of hooliganism.
As Mr Kasparov was dragged to a nearby police van he demanded to know why he was being arrested.

I worked with Luithuains and it is was all bit clock and dagger ......most of them were criminals (vlademer Romanov)

We tend to think of Russia as being the same as the UK but there is still so much oppression going on there

I don`t think Russia is really that much worse than U.K. It is all a matter of perspective. As the quote goes "you don`t know you`re wearing a leash if you sit by the table all day".

Of course having said that this is hard to believe. I think because it is a punk band called "Pussy Riot" there are a lot of people who simply decide to not care what happens to them. Some people will stop caring because it is Russia and the sad thing is that I bet nobody like Prime Minister or whoever or Obama will say anything about it.

I think Pussy Riot Planned for this to happen all along and that they've executed it perfectly

Oh gotcha. Perhaps. They have put light on the situation there and gained much global support which might even sell some records or at least t shirts. Of course it would be cynical to suggest this was about money. I am sure they are genuine though.

I aint saying that I rule out some personal PR being involved
