Job advice required friends...

Am going to have to take it as I can't find anything else, but just wondered if anyone can spot anything I haven't thought about?

I have been offered part-time hours at minimum wage, which should roughly work out at a few pounds less than I get claiming JSA.

I should be able to cover rent and utilities, but I'll only be left with about £48.00 a week after everything else has been paid.

It is paid employment and it will be something for the CV. It won't cost too much to get there and home again either, as it's fairly local.

Hours could be up to 28 a week, depending on how things work out. Directgov informs me that I'll still be eligible to claim £17.00 weekly housing allowance as a top up if I feel I need to, which is helpful, as I don't want to be getting into arrears when the bills start stacking up.

Have I overlooked anything?

Working Tax Credits, or whatever it's called. I'm not sure if it's still around, but I think if you work a certain number of hours per week you can claim...money
I don't know much about it really but maybe you could google it Abs.

Right, I don't know about this exactly, but I have been told that if you earn less than £15,000p.a. you still get your housing benefit and council tax exemption. Maybe contact CAB to find out - they do a brilliant check on what you are entitled to.

Just to let you know, you have to work 30 hours per week to get WTC, unless you have kids or a disability. Thus, if you work 28 hours per week then you won't qualify. I do have an idea how you could qualify, though, that doesn't involve selling your body. I will send you the details in PM so that you can consider it (that sounds secretive and as if it's a pyramid scheme, it's not!).

Hey Abs...if you like,I can tell the IR that you get paid part-time for modding on here. That'll take your total weekly working hours over 30 & you'll be entitled to working tax credits!

(He doesn't get paid for modding on here btw before anyone asks)
