Hei!

I'll be out of here for couple of days... I'm heading to north Karelia to my families summer cottage to celebrate Finnish Midsummer, it's the celebration of Ukko, the most important pagan holiday here. :D

I'll be back at sunday! Raise a toast for Ukko tomorrow night, good fortune will soon follow. ;)

We just drink & eat and do some spells, harmless to any living creatures... Well, except plants, some spells need some flowers and stuff. :rofl:

At midsummers, you should say "hyvää juhannusta". Or then just say "Hyvää Ukon juhlaa". That would be the very old tradition. :oldfart: Joulu = christmas/midwinter. Haha. :larf:

Tomorrow night I will prepare special midsummer sauna, drink and eat a lot, burn huge "kokko" fire, I will do spells and raise a toast for Ukko and Sanctum zone. :woot:

There's a cool reasoning for drinking and eating a lot at midsummersnight, it's all done in honour of Ukko,(He's the highest god of Finnish folklore, controls weathers, thunder and stuff, cool bloke with a hammer) he will then bless people with good fortune, high crop yields and such. And people believe the more you eat and drink, more you get blessed by doing so. :D

Ok, I'm off to the wilderness now! My ride just came....

Ukko is a really cool god. I'll tell more about him later on.

I learned all about Finnish myths when I read the Kalevala but I admit that my first encounter with Ukko was through Dungeons and Dragons. In fact their flagship setting, the Forgotten Realms uses two Finnish dieties: Miieliki and Loviatar.

Now I always thought that Ukko was a dwarf that followed a certain Celtic warrior around and who was utterly yucky :conf:
