Oz had a hardcore of white immigrant pioneers who were by their nature rough and tough.
They had to be to make a home there, certainly in the centre of oz rather than on the coast which was an easier place to live due to weather conditions etc.
Its inevitable that their hard work and legacy is something they wish to protect from outsiders, I guess seeing as its a relatively young country in that respect you can understand that the attitude hasn't changed much yet, just as islam has really been dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century, there's a few places around the globe like this that are similar 'ish' in their own way

Its the 'Al Garnett' attitude that the guy is speaking of and from what I can see many young australians are just as sick of it as this Trujillo was, that said, I think there was more to telstra's struggle than merely that, I would say a certain rupert murdoch had a big part to play

I had my say on Ron Paul the other week, and I will applaud him for his foreign policy, but I think something considerably more radical is needed than his domestic policies.

I do think he is genuine and his heart is in the right place, though. If you watch this clip from the 80s, he's putting forward very similar if not identical arguments to twenty years later, and I agree with most, if not all, of what he's saying here. But look what he's up against:



Maybe the American public has mellowed a bit, but I wonder if they're ready for anything truly radical.
