I have been a university lecturer and I'm now trying to get into primary school teaching (far harder to be allowed to teach younger children)

I enjoy teaching......I'm good at it. Schools are not bad, Education is not bad

Given the amount of people who cannot manage simple maths and think the bank bailout is actually possible to pay back, I would have to disagree...

That's far from the only example of the complete and utter failure of education today but I should hardly have to list the mess.

I say 'No' to faith schools.

Better for schools to concentrate on giving children a good education...without throwing religion into the mix.

If parents want their children to have a religious faith..this should be practiced out of the classroom.

So education is for a job?
Jesus you've been reading the guardian too much dawn. :)
FYI the IT success I have had came with vocational training I paid for myself.
The level of English comprehension I have attained also came with work outside of standard state schooling.

Well if you think by 'education is crap' I meant any form of education whatsoever including a liberal education..then yes I do have to wonder.

I meant the state education that turns out morons unable to spell or do simple arithmetic at 16 Dawn.
I didn't sit a GCSE, it didn't exist in days of yore.

I tend to side with Andy on this one Dawn.

Education is quite a seperate matter from schools, bizarre as that sounds. Particularly when you've had little say in where you are attending and what you are studying.

When I was at secondary school, they taught us to all stand whenever a teacher entered the room. I was thinking about this recently and I think it just about sums up 'education' as far as state schools go anyway. We didn't stand out of respect or because we liked the teacher or even because the teachers were all older than us and therefore somehow automatically had our deference. We stood out of fear for the most part; the rest of us out of conditioning. Plain and simple.

Make of that what you will.

Parents play an important role regardless of whether the children go 'to school' or are 'homeschoolded'

I am very academic so like schools and univeristy

Also in adittion to this , my parents were older......my dad worked evey single day in a trade...he couldn't home school , and my mum was just a bit ill/unwell ...she couldn't home school

Argo I quite like schools
