When i lived in Derby every 6 months or so parents would kill their daughter as part of a backward practice known as honor killing .

Could more be done to stop the spread of this backwardness?

How did I know this would be one of yours? I must be psychic. :scotty:

Seriously...I think you should consider converting.

To answer the question in the title, it's cultural rather than religious, as these killings are common in certain parts of the world (i.e. the Middle East and the Indian sub-continent) regardless of the religion (if any) of the participants. It happens among Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs, and has even been known to happen among Jews and Christians in those parts of the world.

It's a barbaric hangover from the past that should not be tolerated at all. I think it's wrong of the UK authorities to recognise the terminology, as that lends it a credibility that it does not deserve. It is murder, pure and simple, and there is nothing remotely 'honourable' about it.

Murder is murder innit. Whatever the justification, someone has their life cut short and others have their lives fucked.

People can get themselves into all sorts of twisted spaces to make them believe what they are doing is right....

Murder, religion or culture? Neither. It's people that for whatever reason (and there are many) are so fucked in the head at that moment specifically that it seems justifiable to them to forcibly end another's life.

Why is this thread specifically concentrating on "honour" killings? It's almost as if someone is obsessed about a certain section of humanity...

Oh wait...........hang on a mo............

Hmm. I have had a conversation on more than one occasion with some very nice Muslim folks about this. Some were from Jordan, one from Kuwait and another from Israel. ALL of them male and highly opposed to honour killings and said were not a part of their beliefs.

I would like to suggest that the OP that started this thread is in blatant contravention of the rules of the forum, in particular:

3. We will not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia or other forms of hate-speech, or content that could be interpreted as such. We recognise the difference between criticising a particular government, organisation, community or belief and attacking people on the basis of their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
It is all very well and good wishing for him to 'moderate himself', but I think you'll be waiting a long time for that to happen.

I presume he was talking about the EDL. Fatter stupider version of the nazis.

Since when has that been the case on DIF?
:conf:

It's ok to talk about whatever... but when it becomes a perpetual agenda... *yawn*.... that's when it becomes like DIF.
