I've noticed some griping occurring round here lately about certain topics and threads seemingly not being of interest to our members.

I wondered if my fellow members would like to discuss this issue here, as it seems to be annoying some people?

Imo, the number of responses to a topic posted is no real indication of the amount of interest members or even those viewing material without actually signing up have. I can appreciate, it may be frustrating for the poster to think that nobody is interested in their particular topic, but as I've stated, very often this simply isn't the case. I know for my own part, if I come across a subject that I feel I have nothing intelligent, witty or dirty to add to, I often won't bother. Doesn't mean I'm not interested and certainly doesn't mean I have not read it from start to finish.

What I wouldn't like to see here is people getting sore about such issues. People, of course, are pretty much free to do as they wish here, within the parameters of our guidelines. Moaning about the popularity of certain types of thread, however, will only serve to divide the community and even perhaps make those who aren't yet comfortable with posting replies, even less inclined to do so, for fear of reprisals.

That is genuinely how this kind of attitude makes some people feel, myself included some times. Just sayin'.

Gotcha!

I wasn't referring to anyone in particular ofc, just I have noticed posts in other threads about it, which worries me somewhat. You must surely have an opinion on it, you little bugger.

:P

Plus, I need the responses. :hahano:

Good points there abs. I've not been feeling too intellectually inclined for a while, so I tend not to post on those type of threads, as I don't feel I've got much to add. I don't really appreciate the implication that this makes me banal, even if it's true.

I still enjoy reading the more 'intelligent' threads though.

Depends what the topic is tbh.
People will probably have different reasons for not replying, maybe they're just getting bored with forums even? /shrugs.

Can't say as I blame em if its jews/muslims/nazis/DIF.

Are you referring in particular to some peeps not being happy with all the DIF related threads Abs?

Personally, my dictum (snigger ;) ) is that if a thread on a particular topic doesn't interest me, or I'm bored with that particular topic being 'overdone'....well I just don't read it, simples.

I agree with the points you've raised, Abs.

There are many threads I follow with interest, which I choose not to post on at present - in part, because I feel 'dumbed down' by the medication I'm taking, so don't feel confident I'll express myself clearly, in case I lower the quality of the debate and appear even stupider than I really am. :P

There are also a lot of threads that I like to read without contributing to because I've discussed them elsewhere in great depth, and even though there are different members here, I'd be repeating myself. I still like to read them.

There are threads which I don't post on because I'm perfectly ignorant of the subject matter.

There are ones which I'm undecided as to what I believe to be correct.

There are all sorts of reasons.

So if people think I'm vacuous for going on the light-hearted threads more, I'm sorry they feel that way, but it's an error in their judgement which I'm not prepared to feel guilty about. :)

Well as you know Abs, I expressed frustration that we aren't being more proactive to you in chat the other day. It's similar in a way to the Apprentice's frustration back in the day. I'm not suggesting that there should be less of anything. People can obviously talk about what they wish to. However, I would like to see more self help stuff, more encouragement to actively present resistance and alternatives to the status quo etc.

But if people don't want to go down those lines that's their choice and I aint gonna complain to them about it.
I think this thread is a good idea, so well done for starting it :)

I am guilty of being a bitch sometimes if I come across a particular type of topic. I'm trying to curb that for fear that we go the way of lesser forums.

That doesn't mean however, that we can't challenge posts that we feel go against our 'rules'. Or not. Whatever. :D

Nor do I Lesley. :)

What I do in real life, off the internet, is far more important to me..... than which threads, I may, or may not, choose to post in.

Every thread here has it's purpose. Everyone has their own particular part to play. We all have our own things we need/want to say. It's what makes this place great. I personally wouldn't really like it to be completely serious conspiracy/truth related, and also if it was just light hearted and jokey all the time that would get a bit too much as well.

The light hearted banter threads are just as important as the serious ones IMO. We all need a laugh and to blow off steam and that.

As far as DIF related threads are concerned, I do tend to avoid them for the most part, same with the race threads. If new members want to rant a bit about their former home, the DIF, then that's fine, but threads and posts of the type "ooo look what they're doing now on the DIF!" "ooo look what so and so has said about such and such!". You know, that kind of thing. It's just circular crap and old battles and grudges that I'm not interested in.

Also, what Gilly said above.

A lot to do with what threads I do or not participate in is often dependant on the mood/frame of mind I'm in on that day. One day it might be serious educational stuff, another in the chatty light-hearted threads, on yet another day I'll be bitching away in the DIF threads ;)

I meant to say brass monkey's tit btw :chuckle:

As for the threads about the DIF, I just don't read them as I'm not interested. There's no reason to moan about them though.

Forming and enjoying all kinds of friendships are pretty important, imo. Providing and receiving moral support is important. Laughter's crucial. It doesn't mean we're not aware of lurking dangers. It makes us strong enough to defeat them.

I feel a video game thread of epic proportions coming on...
It will be informative, fun, extensive, filled to the brim with nostalgia, no-one will be arsed with it really :D But it's something I've been thinking about for a while.

A nostalgic look back. I don't play much anymore, just a bit of the older classic stuff. I'm moving on from games.

I'll think about it :chuckle:

Abs: I trust you are referring to Yashimoto's Stuff to Fluff ratio.

I can't recall anyone other than me commenting that there should be more stuff and less fluff, so the ratio would be of the order of one to 190, which according to Yashimoto's interpretation, means that I should get stuffed.

Oh well; cue the lonely man scene from the end of the Hulk episodes. I'll get my rucksack and thumb a ride to Stuffsville. I know it's out there somewhere... :gmc:

Anthony, if you want to talk about stuff and you have opinions about Agenda 21 and whether it is sinister, I have made a thread about that in general!

Other than that, my contributions to this forum probably fall under the fluff category.
