I put my 'head on the block', so to speak, because I also broke the forum rules. I'm willing to allow forum members to make their own mind up about what I did. I didn't witness what happened, so I only have other people's version of events to go on, but this would be utterly ridiculous. I would hope most people could make a distinction between coming to a site with the express intention of being abusive and bigoted, and having a strong and an (perhaps) unwise, but natural, reaction to that. They're not the same thing at all, and the latter shouldn't result in any recriminations, let alone banning. Being racist, homophobic, or in fact any form of bigotry, is totally unacceptable, IMHO.
G'day Wake_Up_Bomb.
I will reiterate what I stated to Diamongeezer, I get the distinction between what I did and what the others did.
I'm simply being honest about what it is that I did. I didn't only break the forum rules, I didn't portray myself in the manner in which I would choose to BE. There is a difference to me in stating that someone is a wanker and that someone is acting like a wanker. The first one I am labeling them, the second I am describing / pointing out the manner in which they are acting.
Personally, I think that they acted like arseholes, in that an arsehole performs the function of shitting, and they shitted on the forum members that were present in the chat box, and by association, all others that are members of this forum based upon what they stated about the forum and its membership.
Now this might appear to be pedantic to some, I can comprehend why that would be the case. Yet I know the difference in the manner in which I conducted myself.
That you have stated, "I would hope most people could make a distinction", is something that I am willing to believe that forum members can easily recognise for themselves. I am simply giving them the opportunity to decide based upon the truth of the situation without 'sugar-coating' my part in it. If you will, consider it a form of self-moderation, a principle that this forum is based upon.
After all, remember, it's not like I wasn't accused of joining this forum with a specific "agenda". The only agenda that I actually have is to express myself as Who I Am, an individuated aspect of Life, in which in this instance, I didn't do so. It might be seen as a small matter, though to me it is all that matters, as it is my self-expression, a representation (re-presentation) of Who I Am. I am willingly confessing that who I chose to BE isn't representational of Who I Am. As this is the case, it is up to me to do something about that. Hence the post that I made.
I will state this so that it is clearly understood, I hold myself accountable to my own standards. In no way, shape or form is anyone else accountable to those standards. They are my standards for me to live by. If I am seen to compromise those standards, I freely invite anyone to point it out to me so that I can correct my self expression.
That I broke the forum rules is not as big a concern for me as breaking my own standards. However, being a member of this forum, I am also accountable to the forum rules that are in place and which I agreed to when I signed up to the forum.
I have confidence that others can recognise the difference (a few have posted such already, as you yourself have) between what I did and the abuse from the others.
I have been a witness to the sort of behaviour that went on previously. On the IL forum (Infy), there were quite a few that came there to 'troll' the place. There are certain 'give-aways' if you will that they show when doing this. After seeing it numerous times, many on Infy gave such individuals short shrift, either calling them out or simply telling them to fuck off. The forum community principles that are in place on Infy are different to the forum rules here, though the idea behind them has the same basis. It is how we, as a community, interact with each other that creates the forum.
With this in mind, I willing admit to how I acted in the chat box. It is up to everyone else as to how they perceive this and whether or not it requires some form of moderation by the community. My communication about this is that I willing admit to my conduct and accept full responsibility for it. As I stated previously, this can be taken as a form of self-moderation.
