If I had owt to do with it my response to his initial post was supposed to be more of a recognition of the writing style. I don't believe he had amended his avi at that point. Although it may have appeared that I was welcoming a previously banned member back, I wasn't.

Anyhoo...I no longer have mod privileges so couldn't have done a great deal about it, other than ignore him, which perhaps I should have done. So, apologies. It does seem though that the issue was swiftly dealt with once the mods got back.

If it had nothing to do with me (as it often does), then please ignore everything I just typed.

Really gilly? Maybe i dont remember it too well. I remember the post abs mentioned and took that one as he says. I dont recall much else before he was chopped. Probably wasnt paying much attention tbh

In any event, I wasn't aware that members were not allowed to type certain things or communicate with someone who may or may not have been banned/be using a second account.

I may have the wrong end of the stick (as I frequently do) but this is kind of how it is reading. It may well be that we have all agreed to this at some point, but I obviously missed it or forgot.

I approach all posters the same. Until such a time as something offensive is said or guidelines are broken. Recently I have caused trouble by not recognising someone who was apparently using a second account, but I honestly missed it as I come here to read interesting posts and have a laugh for the most part. Most of this detective stuff flies way above my head in most instances. In this case, it appears most did recognise merv for who he was, simply from his posting style.

I don't agree though that he was welcomed and would suggest that clarification be made regarding what should/should not happen when this happens again, as it will, particularly concerning those members who do not have the capacity to ban someone. I think feather called for something similar.

I honestly don't see that anything went particularly awry in this instance. The person was banned for having a second account. That's what we all agreed on...I think.

Perhaps I'm just a bit out of sync with this place lately. There seems to be a whole lot of thinking required which I've never been very good at.

Nobody said you couldn't speak to people however you want, Abs, or that you did anything wrong at all.

Feather's meaning is that he should have been banned as soon as his identity was known, but he wasn't even though Skets & Oi were aware - it was only the next day when Batty saw him that he was banned.

So despite all the previous discussion and eventual agreement (unless I've got it wrong - which is possible) that socks get banned on sight, it didn't happen.

Hence Feather's observation that they keep coming back, because we're wishy washy (my words not his) and that's to the detriment of SZ, and makes the regular posters who do try to make decent contributions feel like they can't be mithered with it any more.

I don't believe socks are the only reason people can't be mithered Gilly.
But that's just my view......

First up, it's not word games, it clears up what I'm here to do, facilitate the forum. In the instance of Merv I came home the other night beered up, instantly recognised his new username and thread titles, had a nosey, saw no mention of him being a sock, had a dig about it being a double-standard in my cack-handed/beer-goggled way of ascertaining what the current community feeling was on Known Socks. Any other time I would have facilitated based on the general consensusmood/current precedent and marked as a Known Sock. Even then I most probably would have left it until morning as I'm wary of doing owt out back after drink after my last fat thumbed slip. As it turned out he was gone by morning anyway. As for it being a lax approach generally, for me personally it's more being wary lest I get usual accusations slung my way.

I respect your decision to drift off into the ethernet, would rather you didn't personally as I'd just started to like you a bit

P.S. I just received my new router today and am awaiting a switchover date so if you could at least hang 5 till then and I can trust my connection for back-ups it'd be appreciated.

It's a bit clearer now. I'm assuming those who have the capacity to do so, didn't immediately do so for very good reasons though.

Did we all agree on a timeframe for this kind of thing? Obviously, asap would be ideal, but there may be instances where this is not possible for some reason.

I get that it's a pain in the arse, but it's kinda how we roll here.
