I told him that it's great your doing that, and I hope it works out, what else can you say?

There is a age difference but for reasons of respect I won't elaborate, but I would like to ask what my fellow forum folks think is to big of a age gap between people to be in a relationship.
Thanks

If they are both happy and content in each others company it's all good imo.

It's all good if they're both happy rick.

The only time I ever have issue with age gaps is when a younger person is involved with someone much older than themselves. Though not always.
Two adults however, should never be a problem.

Well for example... I have a family member who at 17 started going out with one of her dads mates who was 42. To me this is wrong but probably more so because of the connection with her dad. I tend to be very sceptical of anyone around the age of 40 and upwards that turns their attentions to anyone under the age of 18. Call me cynical if you must. :coffee:

I think it's better to be within ten years of each other anything more than that in my opinion it's destined to fail or there's ulterior motive going on in other words someone is using someone, but I don't judge or comment
.My mother was older than my father and it worked out well I guess. she had multiple kids by him,and a few with a man she knew before she married my actual biological father, and she said he was a work horse, so a younger man was beneficial in that respect

As long as they are both mature adults and exploitation can be ruled out, then it's not for me to pass judgement, or lay down restrictions, on who folks find happiness or an affinity with.

Good luck to them both.

A person here can marry at sixteen with parents consent, legal age of consent to marry is eighteen without parents consent may be seventeen I'm not sure, but I agree with you that was wrong and probably illegal for him to go with her at all

You can marry in the UK at 16, with or without parental consent.

When did the age of marriage change in the US rick?
I know that certainly into the late 1950's it was a low as 13yrs.
Jerry Lee Lewis marrying his 3rd cousin in 1957 being an example.

the heart wants what the heart wants as the saying goes

I see nothing wrong with age gap relationships unless they are exploitative with one side being in it for reasons that are not in the interests of the other side - but that goes for all relationships

If your friend is in his 60's or 70's I don't see the problem. Any younger and I think it's just weird. To each their own though.

His name wouldn't happen to be Harold, would it?

This is what normally happens,a couple that has become seniors, who has owned their own home and were able to take care of themselves and live without fear of falling or needing extra medical care, then have a loss of spouse.

If they have children, they are mostly in their 40's or 50's they get all concerned about their remaining parent and the property,if this property land or home is the free and clear property of the remaining parent they talk her/him into signing over the house, but there is a legal time limit that must pass before it can't be touched by collectors and it's the children's free and clear.

In other words if you old mother gets sick and needs to go to a nursing home she can't just sign the house over to you, then get admitted in the care center, her personal worth, bank account, land home,etc....... can still be garnished for payment of debt.

Moving someone in with you when your long time spouse dies, even if they want companionship, can cost them all they own.Because they didn't sign stuff over quick enough before they became in need of assistance

Sorry to be a Mrs Downer but I genuinely don't think it will be a long relationship, and not just because of her age. Whatever they are each getting from it is likely to be short and (hopefully) sweet.
