It will not be able to trade with the other countries as they still use the FR banking system so it will have to keep the FR banking system ergo changing the person/s changes nothing.

You would have to replace ALL governments at the same time, such a thing is even more laughable than expecting to see people so much as understand how business taxation and FR banking works and thats hard enough.

Well lets face it, if Gue can't even get his head around what FR banking is how can we expect billions of others to do so?

Being able to comprehend what FR banking is and the sheer lunacy of it, is not what I would call ultra intellectual.
Being able to see that what has been mentioned in this thread has nothing to do with 'conspiracy theory' is not what I would call ultra intellectual either.

Hi Andy thanks for taking the time.

SO we see the allegory is irrelevant, why are people putting apples in a high st bank and not eating them or planting apple trees?
Its a crazy system, with basically most business in debt. Banks secure loans against things of real value eg land, housing etc and they become owners of the real property against money loaned out that they never had in the first place!
Surely they did own the money they loaned out if everybody was putting money in their bank?
Once you put money in a bank it's no longer yours, but you would have a contract entitling you to withdraw the value you deposited at any time, a bank will always be liable for any deposits made despite the fractional reserve system, but they also take control of money deposited and invest it etc as you know, so it's not quite true to say "it's money loaned out that they never had".

God above how many times do you need this explaining Gue?
What doesn't make sense to you exactly?

Banks loan out more money than they have on deposit. This HAS to mean that they are loaning out money they do not have.
What is so difficult to comprehend about that? The fact perhaps that its so mind bogglingly insane that they cannot be doing it despite the evidence that shows it to be true perhaps?

The men who penned the books you have an obsession with grew up in a world that did not have FR banking. They are so irrelevant now it isn't worth mentioning tbh.
What books do I have an obsession with in your opinion?
You described the problem being the apples were abundant, and nobody had any left because they put them all in the bank, i don't really get your reasoning how does the fact the bank loan out "more money than they have on deposit" lead to that situation in your opinion?

A basic critique of the fractional system, current economic literature, Neo-Classical economists or even some of Bernanke's or Greenspan's writings would help, just a run down of your interpretation of Fractional reserve banking would be a start then maybe I would get what your point is.

The reality as it stands is that for the most part the world has never been so wealthy as we have been since the advent of Fractional Reserve banking, you could say class antagonisms have increased, inequality has increased, but overall and on a global scale there has never been so much wealth so readily available.

this is nothing about me getting my head around Fractional Reserve banking it's more getting my head around this reactionary conspiracy theory around it.

It would be cleared up if you formulated an actual critique instead of just expecting people to agree Fractional banking is bad based on the slogan "it loans more money than there actually is deposited", which is not really accurate imo:
the initial deposit is lent out 10 times with a fractional-reserve rate of 20% to ultimately create $500 of commercial bank money. Each successive bank involved in this process creates new commercial bank money on a diminishing portion of the original deposit of central bank money. This is because banks only lend out a portion of the central bank money deposited, in order to fulfill reserve requirements and to ensure that they always have enough reserves on hand to meet normal transaction demands.

The relending model begins when an initial $100 deposit of central bank money is made into Bank A. Bank A takes 20 percent of it, or $20, and sets it aside as reserves, and then loans out the remaining 80 percent, or $80. At this point, the money supply actually totals $180, not $100, because the bank has loaned out $80 of the central bank money, kept $20 of central bank money in reserve (not part of the money supply), and substituted a newly created $100 IOU claim for the depositor that acts equivalently to and can be implicitly redeemed for central bank money (the depositor can transfer it to another account, write a check on it, demand his cash back, etc.). These claims by depositors on banks are termed demand deposits or commercial bank money and are simply recorded in a bank's accounts as a liability (specifically, an IOU to the depositor). From a depositor's perspective, commercial bank money is equivalent to central bank money – it is impossible to tell the two forms of money apart unless a bank run occurs.

The authoritarian left.

By producing too much money you cause inflation, yet all that extra money remains for the most part with 1% of the population.
Wages have not kept pace with inflation since wub's graph which illustrated it earlier in the thread, western life basically peaked in the 50,60 and 70's.
From then on its been gradual decline and then massive decline from 2007 with the bank failures and scams foloowed by bailout paid for by the already poor taxpayers who have nothing left.
It is planned destruction. The bankers knew all too well that the present times would come.
Their business fails and then all of a sudden capitalism is no longer relevant. If it was then they'd be broke instead of us.
A basic critique of the fractional system, current economic literature, Neo-Classical economists or even some of Bernanke's or Greenspan's writings would help, just a run down of your interpretation of Fractional reserve banking would be a start then maybe I would get what your point is.
Bernanke's or Greenspans WRITINGS? Why writing?
They have said openly to the face of the US govt that they will NOT disclose where the bailout money has gone.
Do you want to see the video?
Do you want to see the fed being asked where trillions have gone totally unaccounted with no responsibility for it?
Do you want to see Ron Paul asking how you solve a debt problem with more debt?
Surely you have seen these videos they have been repeated ad verbatim all over the internet on DIF and here too for starters.
The reality as it stands is that for the most part the world has never been so wealthy as we have been since the advent of Fractional Reserve banking, you could say class antagonisms have increased, inequality has increased, but overall and on a global scale there has never been so much wealth so readily available.
How is debt wealth?
How is more than half the population of the planet living on less than a dollar a day with no means to sustain themselves naturally as they did in the past without war and conflict MORE wealth?
See what I mean about really epcially dumb statements from people lately?
How is 1% of the population with 90% of the wealth MORE wealth?
MORE wealth for them yes, sure as hell yes. You talk of the bourgeoise and here you are saying there's more wealth than ever!!
LMFAO!!
this is nothing about me getting my head around Fractional Reserve banking it's more getting my head around this reactionary conspiracy theory around it.
What reactionary conspiracy theory?
Its REAL, its recorded, its documented , its in your fucking face lol...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractional_Banking

It would be nice to hear what you think about the fact the Central bank uses two types of money?

It is accurate, you seem to have a problem with the english language.
Banks loan money they do not have, it is considered money because electronic bank transfers are considered money.
If banks did not loan out more money than they had then the economy would be stable, prices would be realistic, people would not borrow money they could never afford to repay. Which at the end of the day is the end result of all the madness.
Et voila, collapse.

If you create shitloads of money to trade amongst yourselves then you inflate the supply of money and keep it amongst yourselves, then you destroy the working class. For the most part they are not the recipients of these loans...the banks are between each other. See hedge funds, LIBOR rate, derivatives trading blah blah blah.
It is stuff that does not exist.

The issue most authoriatarian followers have with governance is that they always think in terms of 'jobs', they never think in terms of self employment and self sufficiency, its always someone else providing the work and someone else providing the money and someone else taking the responsibility.
When the time for responsibility comes knocking on the doors at the top, they don't answer anymore than the proles who follow them do.

There is no magic wand to be waved around, no rocket science that can fix this mess.
An economy only works if you don't dick with it. We have never had such a situation nor will we ever have it, any more than we ever have had a true communist society.

All we have ever had is stupid con jobs with stupid people falling for the same con job again and again and again.
If only we make things more complicated it will fix everything

Andyh as a self described "anti authoritarian" do you try hard to not come across as arrogant/authoritarian?

Most of that is totally irrelevant to the questions I asked you, yeah I know I;m supposed to go "see hedge funds, libor, derivatives" become equally as confused and bewildered about it all as you and develop some pessimistic transhumanist view on things:

Dubs, what would be the point of that? I am generally interested in your views and how you came to adopt them, whether they are part of a historical trend that you are unaware of, or a new development, all I want to do is understand you better.

The arguments made here are based on me questioning what I perceived to be illogical allegories, simplifications, some undefined idea of "sound money", complete ignorance to class antagonisms or the inherent dialectics in the Exploitative Capitalist dictatorship of the Bourgeoisie.

They would essentially be cleared up as I said by a summary or introduction to your views, or some source material we can read?

Maybe I'm the only one but it seems there have been a few other posters, noteably RA, Dawn and also Thoreau in the first pages who took an immediately critical stance of the unsubstantiated assumptions/claims in the OP, your OP needs a scientific grounding aka analysis of the situation, not just slogans or Paulite economic rhetoric, that takes time and effort guys.

Gue, i can't really spell it out any clearer. I started this thread as an experiment in working toward consensus. I chose the first topic to be currency. The idea being that we all chip in our thoughts and see if we can work together constructively.
You're continually showing you either don't get that or are ignoring it. The currency is "undefined" because we are talking through what this currency could be, what the pitfalls are etc. By talking it through we may or may not get a consensus. When/if we do nail the currency consensus, then it will become defined.
Please, either chip in or shut up.

Ok to me it seems there currently is a consensus on currency that you and andyh disagree with but don't define why, I can see why you've come to these conclusions on the economy and why you are thinking about the question and suggest a complete overhaul, but I wonder why you bother to do all this without really basing your endeavour on anything solid, ie developing an already existing critique of the economy or your own one?
Should we go back to full reserve banking?

Maybe I've been distracting you from developing your critique of the economy/currency, so If that's what you want to get on with I'll just watch and learn a bit.

The truth is not authoritarian, it just 'is.
Accept it, live with it, because nothing much about it will change, simple as.

5.1 trillion injection that disappears down a black hole, it did NOT go to the consumers, it went to the banks, to balance digits on a screen for trading paper entities that did not exist!!!
Mewanwhile people lose jobs, go broke, lose their homes (which banks get handed on a silver platter along with the bailout money) all to cover what they call being 'over leveraged' This is bank speak for loaning out way more money than they had on deposit.
The moment a bank loans out 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% more than they have on deposit then they are bankrupt.
If I can't pay back my debt then I am bankrupt.
This applies for every business EXCEPT a bank, so why should they be given this stupid privilege?

They contribute nothing, they take everything.
This is obvious to a monkey, even a monkey knows when he is getting conned.

As I said a few pages back:

sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/General/65645-pu...t=20&start=160#82809

If you want to understand the money system, here is a good start:

Shadow banking hits $67 trillion globally: task force
As I said previously, that is all just mainstream information, Market Oracle, Moneyweek, US government official figures, OECD, Reuters.

That is just what is happening in reality. There's no need to critique or theorise about anything, that is just what is happening and will continue to happen. The value of currency is plummeting while the prominence and status of the financial sector is increasing. Meanwhile, Reuters reports that there's a $67 trillion shadow banking system - roughly equal to the GDP of the entire planet - and all over Europe every nation is drowned in debt and falling apart.

If you can't work out what's going on from that, you'd be better off just watching telly and drinking.

I dont think you're here in this thread to get or give understanding gue tbh. To be disruptive seems more likely.
If you'd like to chip in some ideas that will help us work toward consensus, please do. If not, there are other threads that may suit you more.

Good luck trying to work toward consensus with that arrogance...

To say Gue is more likely to be disruptive and not here to give understanding is absolutely ridiculous....

Ofc he is.
He's completely failed to pay any attention to the information given which has been backed up by ridiculous amounts of factual evidence.
Its not arrogance to spot that, its just plain common sense.
Something a lot of people lack as they seem obsessed with having a circle wank about Ireland in your case or marxism in Gue's case.

Damn right we should go back to full reserve banking.

I'll admit that the op does presuppose a certain amount of knowledge of the system gue. Thats why there was no critique of the system provided. I was hoping to to straight to the discussion of alternatives.

Your question "should we go to full reserve banking?" Is just the sort of input i'd like to see from you. My view on it is yes, absolutely. Others no doubt have different ideas. The idea of this thread is to get them all on the table and see if we can build a pretty picture from them.
