So, what was the first record you bought? How old were you and does the event hold any special memory?

For me it was buying two vinyl singles at the same time. Back in '79 my Dad took me to a record stall in an indoor market in Slough (or should that be Slaaaaa) and stood behind me when I made my purchases.
They were Cars by Gary Numan & A Taste of Aggro by The Baron Knights. The memory of the event that sticks in my mind was the stall holder and my Dad sharing a joke about what I was buying and whether it was ok for him to sell me a record that had the word aggro in the title. I had to promise that I wouldn't use the word in front of my Nan in case she told the guy off for selling it to me.
I was 10.

Same here. Mainly 60s 45s that me and my bro got from our family. Lots of Motown & and Irish diddley-diddley songs.

Ghost Town = Chooon! Top, top bass line.

I had Knocked It Off by BA. Not sure if it was bought or donated.
Flash? I bloody loved that song and at the time I thought the film, with it's cutting edge effects, was fantastic. Still got it somewhere on dvd.

Not sure if anyone would actually confess to buying it. Apart from the 30something girls and Paul Gambaccini. ;)

:emb: I was 11yrs old, paid 45p 'cos that's how much 45rpm's cost in 'em days. It was also the first thing I ever bought with my 50p pocket money!
As an aside, if you go to youtube itself there is a Jim there who uploaded this for Dawney's valentine!!!! 8 months ago! Anything our two esteemed members would care to share???

In whatever year it came out 80/81, and strictly speaking it was bought for me by the baby-sitter whose younger sister was later to succumb to my nutty boy charms.

I would have been pretty shocked if yours wasn't a Madness track. Although I had considered Selecter as well.

Cool lyric as well. 'I'm as honest as the day is long. The longer the daylight the less I do wrong'

50p pocket money and 5p change. Enough left over for 10 blackjacks, 10 fruit salads, 2 bags of Smiths crisps and bus fare to town and back. :D
Ah, I remember those days. Of course, it was all fields round here then and we never locked our doors

Also one of those rare songs whose title isn't actually a lyric.

Return of the Los Palmas 7 is another. :D

The Shut Up vid looks like it was cropped from Complete Madness. The Suggs bit at the beginning looked familiar.
