ok say i had to pretend to speak chinese.. i'd say hyahh ching chong or some shit like that. right? but if you ask a chinese guy to pretend to speak english, how does it sound? or you know, any one from any other language that cant speak the other.
it made me think what do they say maybe its a real word. you never know maybe i say a chinese word by accident. maybe they just say coke texas mcdonalds. so if you know, let me know.

I don't have any answers for your OP bats but I do have a wonder of my own that I thought I'd take the opportunity to raise :D

My wonder is, why do old ladies suddenly decide one day that they'd like to go from being grey haired to walking into a hairdressers and asking for a blue rinse.... blue hair! Why does this happen?

It'd probably sound like something from the movies they watch "yo bro wat up dawg, ya hit mcd's, feel me?"

I reckon they would say "Good morning! Jolly fine weather we're having today isn't it! I would love to stop and chat old chap, but I'm afraid I must run, I'm taking my darling wife out to lunch, good day to you sir!"

Nah they'd probably recite some Beatles lyrics or something :D

Interesting question though.

I wonder about blue rinses too...why? My nan had one...WHY?

Lmao... yes Gilly... it's American, but point me in the direction of a rap song or movie that doesn't sound like a foreign language and I'll change what I think they'd say.

Yes - just what the hell?

I was hoping that by my mum's age (73) she'd be senile enough for me to get revenge for putting me in all those silly woollen hats, as a child, that made me resemble a dahlia, and the crooked-fringe haircuts she inflicted.

She's got all her faculties though, and won't let me dye her blue. :(

I used to work alongside a group of nice Italian men, who made me laugh, because whenever they spoke to me in English, their voices went all sing-song & high pitched. I used to say, 'Ciao' to them, and they'd say, "'Ello Mrs," in silly voices - but you could tell they didn't realise they were silly voices.

I said this very same thing to my folks a while back and i don't think they had thought of it before. How do we sound to others from another country (to their ears and mind)
That afternoon we went for a walk and met some Polish folk and my mother asked them what she sounded like when speaking. They said we sound posh!
On the other hand I asked the same question to a polish guy who worked at our factory and he said we all sounded gay!

Speaking nicely doesn't equate to not having a life. I'm not talking about the Royalty accents though. They speak with so many plums in one's gob as to distort the English language beyond all comprehension. That's just snobbery. Somewhere between their snobbery, and your inverted snobbery, is a happy medium. :moon:

Balls, i worked in Lambourn and for days off went off to some local towns here and there, but round that area, and fook me side-ways, the workers in every shop i went in made me sound like a gutter snipe. I rebelled very young, was sent to elocution lessons to speak properly, etc etc. I didn't like being manipulated. I still don't
