Anybody suggesting a third party candidate must be unaware of the political system in the united states I assume. Even if all other parties joined together and put their money together they would have no chance to take power. Nadar would have been one to get behind. I would have voted for him for sure.

Eh?
Nader was a 'third party candidate'! In fact, he only ran in 43 states, the libertarian party ran in 50 of 51.

Yeah Obama has no power to do anything cos he got elected for his last term on the back of such things as promising to stop the practice of signing executive orders.

So the third party candidates in the US, they can seek to influence politics at the executive level by campaigning and running for election in their State for the Senate or House of Reps is that right?

I am probably not the best person to ask but as I understand it to run for president you need the nomination of a party. If you look into there are actually a bunch of other parties out there left wing right wing and broken wing. The larger of these being the libertarians and the green party. The libertarians usually have failed Republicans running which tells you a lot. The greens are to the left of the democrats and neither of these parties get on the ballot in every state. Added to the obvious problem that gives you is these parties have less money for ads. Around election time you see Romney ad Obama ad followed by the local dem and local repub. You don't see ads for other parties. They do not get on the news hardly either and they are not a part of the debates. They simply don't have a voice outside of social networking and word of mouth. In England such a problem could possibly be battled by boots on the ground campaigns but that simply isn't viable in the USA. Then you have the electoral college which actually decides the president. It is a weird set up that most people (especially those that lose the election) see as unfair. Certain states are worth more. It still confuses me and I think that is the point.

Essentially all those noble or daft enough to vote for a third party are already split anyway. Left wing green right wing libertarian. It really is divide and conquer because a bunch of people are not eligible to vote for various reasons then certain people get more of a vote based on state. So if the democrats win a particular state they get twice as many votes as they would for another state.

Since when is it daft to vote for the party that you believe in?
And if this is the case, then I truly wonder why idiots have a go at me for not bothering to register to vote.
Neither Ireland nor the UK have a libertarian party.

Why? :)

Democrats have a similar record for war as republicans do. Al Gore was pushing the carbon taxation scam and he was similarly sponsored by the MIC as Bush was.

You have a democrat presdient right now who is still in the middle east and authorizing drone strikes and dragging people off to gitmo. Nothing has changed, the only expectation you can have is that republicans would have gone to war with iran by now, meanwhile Obama is quietly pushing through legislation that allows for greater dictatorial presidential powers which are only going to benefit whoever replaces him next. War has basically been the economic driver for the US and remains the only alternative the US will be left with shortly with that debt mountain they have. Again neither the pubs nor the dems will take responsibility for the debt they just blame each other. They WANT the debt mountain to lay the foundations for whats coming.

That is what Mitt Romney said he would do right when he got inaugurated into the White House.

Build trillion dollar aircraft carriers and bomb the shit out of Iran from the sky to start the New Year.

We have to come to expect that from the republicans due to the continuous dialog about it.

Shock and Awe is a big idea i'm sure an Iraqi that lived near Baghdad in 2003 would tell you that.

That'll be the 51st state mentioned feather- DC.

Point I was trying to make ibaster is that the libertarians were in more state ballots than Nader was, yet Nader got more votes.
He got more votes because he had more money to pour into it, its all advertising and spam and the electorate are so easily persuaded to make some silly choices.
The libertarians are a valid vote and could indeed be voted in if people made that choice. Yet the people refuse to make that choice don't they?

In the UK there's not even a libertarian party, the closest to it is UKIP and they're a mile off being libertarian by my measure. They're just tories with a bee in their bonnet (the EU).

What I see is growing poverty, alienation and brainwashing in both the UK and the US. People don't want freedom, they want to suck on the teat of mother socialism for comfort because its all they are capable of now and yet we have a situation developing where socialism can no longer sustain itself. A perfect storm.

You like paying more green taxes?
Perhaps to pay for windmills that use neodymium from open cast mine pits in China where hundreds of people are dying from pollution and cancers etc?

What irks me about green candidates is that they are anything but green, they just want to increase taxes and pretend it'll somehow fix everything.
In the UK we pay way way more for our fuels because of taxes but it hasn't stopped us all from continuing to drive to work when there is literally no other option.
Should we all live in flats in the city as envisioned by future 'green' models which are all for the benefit of corporations?

How do green parties even bother to mention or address the banking disaster?

A lot of questions there I know but they're quite valid, I don't see much deep thought being put into this voting nonsense by many people tbh.....the cynical side of me would suggest banning people from voting unless they pass a general knowledge/intelligence test.
