Is the internet a dimension? I've been thinking about it a bit today... It's like a world within a world, when we turn our computers on, we kind of step into a different reality, a reality we're growing to rely on, some people sort of live in the internet

An electronic, man made dimension?

I find the thought of it a wee bit disturbing for some reason. I guess because its so artificial. Of course the "real" world is becoming increasingly artificial. I dunno. Something about a synthetic reality- I mean, more virtual reality-ish, just creeps me out.

Man, this topic makes me wanna watch Caprica again! Loved that show- can't believe it got canceled when the SyFy channel has so much shitty programming.

Dimensions can mean whatever you want them to tbh and we see popular science doing exactly that today with talk of multiverses etc etc.
Its all bollocks imho used to try and explain away irregularities with the accepted norms of physics today.
We simply got the model wrong. Just as we'll find the computer model of the climate is wrong.
Science is about constantly being able to adjust your view based upon new discovery via practical experimentation NOT theory.
If you remain static then you are not scientific, its as simple as that.

The internet is great for passing on information or ideas to people you would most likely not do in every day life but it is def not an extra dimension in physical terms I dont thing,thats down to perception.

Many people get the actual feel for someone else personalty on the internet, even without just going by what they write, it's like a invisible sixth sense,but some are of the opinion it's all what you deduce from what they write, I believe there is something else to it, like another world or dimension we are just starting to understand.

Yeah but the world in the book is limited to what's written on the pages. Look at what we can do when we turn the computer on... we can talk to people, buy our shopping, watch movies, listen to music, read books... look at the way we can connect with people and share ideas. I'd say the internet is much less like a book, and more akin to the tin cans humanspirit mentioned, except it's more like billions of tin cans as opposed to two.
Whilst not a dimension, I would say the net is a world within a world.

Why do we say, "I'm leaving the forum"? It's because when we sign in, we're kind of here... this thread is like one room in a house (Sanctum Zone), in a street (Forum Road) in a country (social networking), in a world (The internet)
