Should intelligence be based on how much fun and excitement a person has?

I find it ironic that most people i know who consider themselves intellectuals tend to be dull and bitter.

I always think to myself how can this guy consider himself to be intellectual yet can't figure out how to have a fun life.

Anyone else notice this in society or in your immediate crew, friends or family?

you're right dude. pretty much any one who thinks they are intellectual is sitting on a high horse with a raging boner for boredom.
but also, any one i met who fosters that image of being an intellectual, i want to kill them. i think its some kind of primal thing of killing the smarter monkeys for fun.

I just wish some of these so called intellectuals could back up their intellectualism with fun filled healthy celebration.

To many dudes who think they are smart but can't figure out how to have sex with thoroughbred girls.

It's hard to take someones intellectualism serious if their life is dull and bitter.

Because if they really were smart they would feel good sensations.

A person can be fairly intelligent, without being an intellectual. Some people feel they're too intelligent for their surroundings, and therefore may feel slightly out of step with the general population in their neighbourhood. It might be difficult for them to find things in common. I don't think it's because they think themselves superior. I also think some intelligent people enjoy mixing with non intellectuals because they're fun people, and don't have any pretentiousness or snobbery.

Sometimes, with intelligence, comes neurosis Some intelligent people think themselves out of fun through self consciousness, low self esteem, etc. and like I said above, feeling slightly out of step with the people in their neighbourhood.

I think intelligence can be frowned upon, and ridiculed sometimes. I remember deliberately reading badly in school so that the other kids wouldn't think I was a swot or a nerd or a bookworm or something

psketti can you assign batou to be my personal moderator from here on out? It's just i would feel more comfortable being moderated by an intellectual like batou than a passionate man like jhado or an anarchist like oioioi.

I stay in my own company a lot these days.. Or hang out with selected good friends, not random anybodies... Just few short years ago, I used to have ton of "friends" around and I used to party all the time etc. Then at one point I realized that I'm mostly wasting my time with people not worth the attention. I don't know if I'm intelligent or not, often times not, but I don't have a slightest need to waste my time and energy with people who I consider stupid, there's plenty of stupid people in Finland, so much that many social encounters with "them" is annoying and frustrating to the point of internal cranial explosion and vomiting fire all over them.

That's why I don't frequent bars any more, put in a bunch of normal people, stupid people and what ever people, then see them get drunk, even "narmally intelligent" ones sink to the level of drooling barbarians in no time if there's king alcohol involved. And I'm not going to watch that at all or not at least sober.

Many of my ex "friends" would probably see me and my life extremely boring and dull, for I sit home most of the time, either chatting on internet or praticing drums.

And in my experience, those who call themselves "intellectual" more than often are not. Usually their problem is not high intelligence, but a need to boast with something.

If you associate a simple person with a lack of education, yes they seem more happy,

I would say smart people are never completely satisfied, they may act it but their not.................. imho

Why must it be assumed that intellectuals never get laid and therefore don't know the meaning of life, the vagina? LOL.
smart-asses and dumb-asses both get laid, doesn't make their lives any better, they still annoy the hell out of me.
