as if feather :D i have work to do....sadly.

dont get me wrong, i do see andys mistake. if i had said the black line was visible BELOW the horizon, he'd be right.
What i said iirc was, BEYOND... bats pic shows what i mean. clearly you can see things beyond the horizon as long as they are not below it. ie andy is wrong. must we keep this farce up?

I think "beyond the horizon" is often used to mean that from the appearance of something stretching to the horizon, one gathers that it continues so out of sight. For example, "the river continued to wind across the plain and beyond the horizon" or "the ocean stretched beyond the horizon!".

There is also the idea that as one travels the new landscape appearing from what was once behind the horizon, confirms that it did stretch beyond the horizon.

I should hope the world does extend beyond the horizon, otherwise we're all falling off the turtles back :D

1.The line at which the earth's surface and the sky appear to meet.
2.The circular boundary of the part of the earth's surface visible from a particular point, ignoring irregularities and obstructions.

From this definition we are unable to see beyond the horizon because the horizon is that which is visible from the point that you are at.

The higher you go with relation to the surrounding terrain, the broader the horizon. This is called the visible horizon.

The maximum distance you can see the Earth's surface is called the True Horizon and at sea level this appears almost flat to the naked eye.

At the height of a human being standing about 3 miles is visible but there is also the refracting effect of the atmosphere to consider.

Then it gets fkn complicated

I can't believe there are actually a few of you who think the sun is 7 miles away (or even 3 on mikey's chart) and are still rabbiting on about stuff that's below the horizon :D
